Just don't think it's needed, and would be a foolhearty plan. The draft is not a guaranty to land this franchise those perfect pieces. People are impatient now. You think they're willing to wait possibly 14, 15 years to get lucky with the right guys? There are some nice pieces in place already. Some key additions, development of existing young talent, and maturity are all that is needed to get this team to continue in the right direction.

Great coach and GM. Able to trade high draft picks for more high draft picks while being very smart with trades and free agent signings.

    A very well run franchise.

Philly just sucked as much as they could and kept throwing darts at the draft dartboard in hopes of hitting the bullseye.

Not only would I approve, I advocated this very approach when LaMarcus left.

My worry was that they'd spend a lot of money on middling talent to surround Damian and reach a "good but not great" ceiling and get stuck. Never in my wildest dreams did I think Olshey would be so foolish with contracts -- Like, wow!

Olshey honeydicked us with good contracts like RoLo, Ed, and Aminu.

Someone here said they'd rather be the Kings. But Kings don't know how to draft. If they did, they'd be starting Dame/Curry/Mitchell/Kawhi/Cousins and with a decent coach, they'd be champs.

Yeah, I didn't think he'd go full retard with Turner and MeyLe, but boy did he surprise me.

Two very different approaches. Which one are you advocating? Sounds like the latter in your first post. But then you bring up the former as to try to validate a similar approach when they aren't similar at all?. The latter has that low probability of working. The first can't be pulled off without the proper team. BOS never tanked for top 5 draft picks. If you would have said the BOS method the first time I would be more on board with trying that.

Tank and trade the picks after the first two years.

I clearly said Philly in my OP. I added Boston because once they got some high draft picks they have continued to turn them into more high draft picks while completely retooling their roster multiple years in a row. I would love it if we could do it the Boston way but I don't see that happening. Paul Allen loves the draft too much to trade a high pick for future high picks. He's a dartboard guy always looking for the bullseye.

Yes, I would love to be able to do that BOS approach. But once again it is a an entirely different plan. And even then what has it really produced? Nothing in the grand-scheme of things yet. People on here would just be bitching we can't get over the hump and lose every year in the WCF's. You can't satisfy fans without a title. It IS all or nothing with them. Only one team wins each year and usually the team that wins has won before in the last 5 years. We all will be lucky to get 1 more title before we die. Sad fact.

I wanted to offer Lillard for Ben Simmons last year, after Simmons got injured. I wonder if they would've gone for it?

If we trade Dame to the worst team in the league for draft picks, he will still find a way to make the playoffs. Making those picks worthless for a rebuild.

Way too much luck involved to actually do this right. I'd rather control my own destiny. I don't have the stomach for this-- not with a prime Dame on the roster

Besides, the question asked here is mostly moot. It's not what we want, it's what PA wants.

And there is no way he can tolerate a full on tank.

You offer CJ for Simmons and when they laugh you ask what they would take and go from there.

The only person that knows for sure is Allen. After yet another season that ends in a gutless whimper, maybe he's ready to try something new?

(Or maybe he'll say "fuck it" and sell the team?)

I think this is a very good point. Olshey has the stench of a fast talking salesman. I suppose he's probably relatable to most player agents. But to the players? I think most free agents would be more likely to respond to and want to play for someone they respect and relate to, like Chauncey Billups. Kind of a "players GM", if you will.

Come on uncle Paul. Make this happen!

Trade him to a team that has another team's pick, then.

To be (very grudgingly) fair to Olshey: he's already done a rebuild after the LaMarcus exodus. Trouble is, he fucked it up by giving a big contract to Turner and any contract at all to Leonard.
