Absolutely agree. And happiest guy has to be Hal who with didi and andujar can save 35 mill or so on machado
2015 start of season, Sir Didi was prone to error. I wasn't too impressed, but his work ethic developed into a perennial All-Star. It's a Wonder how the Yanks ended up with him. A three-team trade with the Reds, next year followed by a three-team trade with the D-backs. Then a scrawny 150 lb kid, now a monster in pinstripes... A feel-good story if there ever was one!! Here's an article I knew nothing about... Between The Judge and Sir Didi the knighted one, there is a lot of Honor on the field in pinstripes... https://www.foxsports.com/other/story/kidney-ailment-hasnt-stopped-d-backs-gregorius-072113
As YF5545 stated so well- "Note to Machado (& all 019 Thunder Alley FA's), there is no longer a vacancy in New York New York"...
I expected Sir Didi to have another great year, but didn't see this outburst coming. He's picked up right where he left off in the 017 ALCS... hit a grand slam in the eighth inning on Mon. vs. Minnesota, the first by a Yankee this season... is batting .324/.429/.746 (23-for-71) with 18R, 7doubles, 1 triple, 7HR, 24RBI, 15BB and just 8K in his first 21G. Leads the Majors in RBI and slugging average ranks second in OPS (1.175) to Mookie Betts (1.191)... is tied for second with 15XBH and tied for sixth with 7HR... leads the AL with a .423 isolated power. Is tied for fourth in the AL with 15BB in 91PA(16.5%)...drew walks in just 4.4% of his PAs over his firstthree years with the Yankees. Leads the Majors w/ 7HR and 20RBI at home is tied w/ Aaron Judge and Brett Gardner for the MLB lead w/ 14R at home. Has hit safely in all 7G on the homestand, batting .346 (9-for-26) with 7R, 1 double, 4HR, 11RBI and 4BB. His 1.7 WAR (FanGraphs) is third among all Major Leaguers (Mike Trout-1.8, Manny Machado-1.7)
Having to come to New York and replace Jeter was a monumental task. Didi has gone beyond living up to the challenge.
We all know how desperate the Mets get in mid to late summer. They could try to match what we have if Machado finally leaves Bal.
I usd to shudder when Gregorius came to the plate back in '15. I used to call him Strander because he left a let of men on base. To his credit he has cleaned up his act and is a huge cog on this Yankee team. Not an easy task knowing that he followed Jeter.
^^^^ Similar to Brooks Robinson's departure, & D. DeCinces couldn't fill his shoes... Didi- Holy shit is on a freaking tear, another bomb from the knighted one...!!!
