If we end up with a top 2 pick in the draft (knock on wood) and we become a good team in a year or two, Danny Ainge will get all the credit it in the world for the wonderful job he did to return this team to glory. Let me get something straight, and Jeff Hickman talks about this all the time on Celtics Pride... if we get a top 2 pick and eventually return to glory, Danny Ainge doesn't deserve that credit. He will get it, he will get praised by the media and the average fan on the outside looking in, but the reality is that he never planned for us to be in contention for this pick in the first place. Four years later, this is where we are because of him, really. Because of his mistakes and inability to produce a winning team in 4 years, we are in this position. I just had to say this because people would give him credit if we ended up with that pick (knock on wood again). That shouldn't entirely be the case.

A lot of GM's would have takin the Celtics to mediocrity, and they probably would have stayed there for quite a while. I think Ainge is lookin for titles and for long term. However...next year there are no more excuses. The Celtics must make the playoffs, or he should be gone.

Had we been healthy this year, Combs, we would have been the 7th-9th seed in the East and still gotten a mediocre mid-first round pick. Mediocrity yet again. All Ainge.
Maybe it will feel a little safer knowing Memphis has a 4% more chance than us at getting the 4th pick..lol

I try not to pay attention to the odds, because they never work out as planned.
^^^Yeah the lotto is basically a crapshoot just like the real ones at your nearest 7-11...I don't put much stock into it either. But I can tell you one thing, if we get anything worse than #2, I probably won't return to my computer for a week because I'll be too busy slamming my head against a wall. But if we get a top 2 pick I probably won't sleep for 2 days, I be giddier than a little girl.

I dont think Ainge will do that in Boston necassarily, I think more credit would go to Doc Rivers for developing the players as well.

What I'm saying is that Danny Ainge would receive credit for getting Durant or Oden (knock on wood). They'd all say "Oh wow, what a great young nucleus. Danny Ainge has done a masterful job in Boston." When in reality, he hasn't. Also, Doc Rivers will never get any credit.
Yeah if there's one thing we know for sure, its that Doc will never get credit for anything. And rightfully so.
I completely agree CB32. It's the same thing with the Bucks, we like you guys have a young team, lots of injury problems and one big superstar. If the top pick Larry Harris will get all the credit when like you said, we got there over a 4 year period of average play and high picks. (Both GM's have made big mistakes).
I see what you're saying, but it sounds to me like he'd be in a no win situation then which isn;t really fair is it?Most of the top teams in the league built their teams because they were able to get a top draft pick. Cleveland is only decent because of Lebron. Miami won the title because of Wade. The Spurs have been dominant because they got Duncan. The Rockets with Yao. So if Durant or Oden turns into a Tim Duncan for the Celtics and they become a powerhouse for the next 10 years, you won't give Ainge any credit at all then?I mean I basically see what you're saying, but somebodies got to get the credit.

We are in this position (2nd worst team in the league) because we have too many young players and injuries. It's not Ainge's fault we have been injury plagued (although he does have a history of trading for overpaid injury prone players - eh hem Raef/Wally), but it's his fault we have this many inexperienced players on the same team. It's also his fault that we have a poor coach (great guy, good motivator, not a good in-game coach). In fact, Ainge himself has also said "I never envisioned us having this many young players on the same team at this point." That's his fault. Combs, had we been healthy this year, we would have been probably around the 8th seed or in contention for that seed, getting the 14th or 15th pick, yet again. Mediocrity. If we get this pick, it's luck. Nobody deserves credit. I would give Ainge credit if we end up getting this pick and Ainge goes out after and gets us the "final pieces of the puzzle." But getting a high draft pick is a token of having a bad record, nobody deserves "credit."
