He just won another european cup which far exceeded expectation for his team. The Knicks are supposedly interested but he said in an interview there are other teams interested as well. Being Israeli I had a chance to closely monitor his career and I think it would be an excellent move. Despite his subpar season with the Lebron Cavs (although he was fired when they were 1st in the east) I think that coaching a real team in need of a real coach he can do a much better job, also better than Stotts' with all due respect. He's simply a great basketball mind, a great decision maker and an all around great coach. Also: although he had most of his success as an Israeli coach and in Europe, he's American born and raised and can't do a worse job than Stotts' in adapting to the leaguge, managing Egos, etc,
I like David Blatt... everyone knows in Cleveland he was undermined by the “assistant coach” LeBron. I think if anyone can get these guys to play more like a team it’s him... another coach I would like is Jay Wright at Villanova... Paul Allen should make him an offer he can’t refuse
Euro-culture is much more accepting of the idea of the coach as army sergeant. There's a lot more platooning and a tradition of Bob Knight-style antics. I don't think it translates. Granted, Mike D'Antoni is an exception. (Also George Karl.) But, just because Brad Stevens is a great NBA coach doesn't mean that the "don't hire a college coach" isn't a good rule of thumb, and I think the same goes for Euro-coaches. Let Platt prove himself with some other team.
I don't mind the idea of David Blatt as the Blazers coach, that whole situation and the fact Blatt hasn't gotten another chance shows how much Power LBJ has in the league, he tried to coach Lebron and Lebron wasn't having it.
I think Blatt gets the maximum out of this team. Rotations, substitutions, minute-distribution. My only concern is he'd be having trouble with benching players, egos, etc. But Stotts is playing the wrong players for years so we can't do much worse
I don’t know about you, but most people’s opinions evolve as they learn new information... the end of season loses to Memphis and Dallas, combined with sweep in playoffs were game changers
Jay Wright sure loves Villanova. Money could persuade him like it did for John Calipari. The question is: What is owed to Terry if he moves on?
Not sure if you didn't notice but Stotts is still our coach....if NO was going to fire him it would have happened right after the sweep.
