I believe it was around 3/4 inch difference in their actual combine measurements

    Huh? ASSume?

You disagreed. Id like to hear your other options. I might agree, but I don't know without reading them.

Well hoopsjock pretty much outlined other options that are available such as the 13mil TPE and there are players like Aminu, Harkless, Collins as well as a 24th pick and future picks. I'm not going to pretend to know what other teams are willing to trade and what it would take but it shows that we do have some assets that can help improve the roster.

That's the key though is the overall consensus is those players and picks will not net an upgrade back.

But let me get this straight. You are able to tell someone else they are incorrect, but aren't willing to tell them why and instead lead them to some other poster and their opinions?

    sigh......

Lets take Aminu/Hark/Collins as well as our 24th pick. What do you think the best return would be that we could get? Then balance that return with the roster after the trade and evaluate if you actually think it is an upgrade or not.

I'M not trying to be argumentative, i'm genuinely curious. I don't think we can get an upgrade back that helps the overall roster. Yeah we could get back one player better than anyone on the list, but does it help the TEAM?

It's been a couple of days. Better check the board to see who replaced Olshey.

    WHAT THE HELL?

Maybe they couldn't wake him up to fire him. I hear he's a heavy sleeper at his desk.

apparently this was all for argument. No thanks. Over all consensus from a forum is really irrelevant. Only thing that is relevant is what our GM and the other teams GM is willing to do. I didn't think Plumlee could bring Nurkic and a first round pick. I didn't think Outlaw and Blake could bring us Camby. Bottom line, deals are made all the time that nobody sees coming.

    sigh....

Do you know what players other teams are willing to trade and what they are willing to accept in trade? My initial point, that for some reason you took offense to, is that we have other assets to acquire a player that could help the team.. If you disagree that's fine, but I already explained to you that I don't get into fantasy basketball. I'll give you one to play with. Harkless or Aminu and our pick (and possibly a future first round pick) for Tobias Harris. That would be an upgrade.

Quick question, can someone explain how exactly the trade exception works and how easy or hard it is for the Blazers to use it? I think I get it but I know Cup and Hoops know more than me about it.

If I remember right most “experts” when they traded Crabbe said it would be hard to use the exception they made last summer.
    Not arguing just ignorant-

It's essentially similar to having cap space but instead of signing a free agent, you use it to acquire a player already under contract on ateam. It can be used all at once or split into as many pieces as you want as long as each piece fits the CBA. Think of it as a credit card to buy a player and the receiving team then gets a TPE in the amount used. It can also only be used by itself as it can't be combined. The reason some say it likely won't be used is because it would put us well into the luxury tax next year.

Seeing what they do with the TPE (and the MLE) will go a long way in letting us know just how serious they are about winning next season. I just don’t see regular trades as an option this offseason, assuming CJ is off the table.

It’s pretty much worthless because any player signed with it would cost like triple the salary because of luxury tax... but Neil will still probably brag about having it

Being fair to Olshey even though I think I’ve expressed my opinion. It’s really hard to tell how much a GM is trying to make trades and if he wants to use the exception or whatever. Whatever a GM wants to do requires getting players, agents, or other GM’s to play along.

Thanks for the explanation on the tpe.

And most importantly, the owner. I always find the “Olshey just wants to save money” takes pretty funny.

Theres also an element with players that simply don't want to go to certain places, and even though they aren't free agents, they still are part of the equation. If they say they wont be happy going to Portland, then Neil isn't inclined to acquire the player.

No offense taken. I just find it difficult to discuss things with you because you beat around the bush and do things like answer questions with questions. Makes it difficult to have a healthy conversation. You combine that with your previous issue with me about making a "snide comment", It seems you like to argue rather than discuss.

I'm trying to discuss this with you and your answers to the questions are avoidance answers at best.

So you think losing two of our best defensive starters and our first for Tobias Harris is an upgrade? I see it as a sideways move , not an upgrade. I don't see any clear real upgrades available without losing something else important in the transition.

If there are clear options for upgrades, i'm asking your thoughts on them because I think many would disagree.

Also, who gives a shit about whether the GM sees things we don't. We are all speaking on terms of what WE know about the league. In our view, we don't see a significant upgrade available, but we could be wrong and I am asking you to point them out if there are indeed some. And if they are out there and its clear, then why haven't we made the move yet?

I guess my point some of you are saying trust the GM because we don't know what he knows. But most of us are saying if he knows more, then he needs to take that knowledge and turn it into something tangible. If not, then he believes what most of us believe. It will be difficult to upgrade the roster.

Which limits our ability to upgrade the roster even more, wouldnt it?

Yep. I know that for a fact, several years ago (5?) GS wanted Chris Paul. Put a package together. Since the Warriors at the time had not quite become a 'destination' NBA location....CP said no. Big mistake. But the deal was put together. I think everyone is happy that deal didn't happen from GS' POV.
