    GREAT QUESTION!!!

There are several types of referee:

    Me:

I'm a veteran and it shows. I have complete awareness of every aspect of the game from foul count to the amount of times outs each coach has. I never need to look at the arrow to know possession. I'm aware of heightened emotions resulting from physical contact. There's never been a fight on my floor in 16 years. I'm the, let's do this shit right, make it look good, keep the players safe and the game flowing type of ref.... "No I'm not calling that 3 second call you've been screaming for NANCY! It stops the flow of the game and that kid's not gaining an advantage... Jesus... Pipe down..." I RUN. I SPRINT. The players do not beat me up and down the floor. I'm fit and just as athletic as they are.

If you know a rule, and I'm administering it incorrectly, feel free to say whatever you want to me. I can take it.

    The newbie:

They're on time. They try hard. They know the game but interpreting it to the coaches, players, and fans is a newer experience. They're GREEN. But they're "plucky" Padawans looking to be bobble heads absorbing info. They're usually younger and have a season or so under their belt. They've at least played some high school ball and need some weekend money. Those are diamonds in the rough. The good ones will listen and take constructive criticism. They'll also go to camp, watch film, and work to get better. We NEED them. So bad.

Take it easy on them. They're trying hard. They want to do it right. They're the honest brokers that are mastering a craft that is HARD AF. Ask them questions instead of hurling insults. They're reffing YOUR kids. You'll see them again, and you'll want them to be better. Ask them questions that make them explain their call. They need that experience.

    Old yeller:

Remember what happened to Old Yeller? Same thing needs to happen to this MF... Take his ass out back, and put us ALL out of our misery.... Now, you don't have to be older to be an "Old Yeller"... You just have to be someone who if you said these things to them you'd be well within your right as a ticket paying customer: "Motherfucker can you come past half court??? Why are you just standing there? MOVE!!! Why the FUCK are you calling the foul from half court when they play is right in front of the ref on the baseline.... Really???? I mean... REALLY??? How do you call that ticky tack shit at the top of the key, but you swallow your whistle when MFs are gettin' murdered down low??? You literally have glasses on... THICK glasses...

Omg... Make his life a LIVING HELL.... ADMONISH HIM (or her) for the DISSERVICE they're doing to our beloved game. They can't move anymore... They're never in position to make a call.... Make them quit...

I'm about to go to my portland basketball league game. These fucking refs we always get are so lazy. One of them doesn't ever cross half court. They never switch spots like they are supposed to on shooting fouls. They don't even know the rule book very well. I can't stand refs like that. If you hustle to your spot and are knowledgeable about the rules then I'll be fine with blown calls but these lazy fuckers who call shit from like 60 feet away piss me off.

I say a lot of things to make myself laugh. I probably hate NBA refs more than you do. I know a few of them and have gone to their camps. NBA officiating absolutely sucks. You'll get no argument there.

As for rule changes there are only minor tweaks that happen. The rules committee here together every off-season. The hand check rule is good IMO.

MFs wanna say "hand check" but really It's a hold/push that disrupts the players rhythm, balance, speed, and quickness.

I can't hit your hand with my of arm. Why should you get to hold me with yours?

I know the guy who runs that league and here's the problem. He pays the refs SHIT. SHIT PAY = SHIT REFS. plain and simple.

My best friend sold that league to him. When we were running it, we kept track of your stats.

Fair enough. I really can't stand the way the NBA is officiated (maybe placing the blame on the rules was the wrong place I can meet you there), almost all the calls go towards the offense, some guys get away with pretty much anything. I liked playing defense more than offense because it felt like such a mental challenge of trying to figure out what the opponent was going to do, but when I watch the NBA I'm constantly thinking what in the world was the defender supposed to do there? That's what bothers me, when I feel like the defense basically does it the way your supposed to, and some guy like Harden gets away with some crap play and get's ft's.

Just really drives me crazy watching the NBA sometimes. I'll stop complaining about it for now though heh.

Nah, I mean I thought about it, and he may be right that placing the blame on the rules which is what I said, was wrong. Either way I think watching the NBA at times can be extremely frustrating. I don’t know if I go as far as he does saying the rules are basically perfect, but if he’s reffed he probably knows the rules at least somewhat better than me (though I don’t think I’m “ignorant”, either).

I'm probably projecting then because NBA professional officiating often frustrates me.

Toronto looks to be in a worse position than the Blazers in terms of ways to make the team better this year. I have no idea how that team Pieces it back together. They checked out of that series after game one, how mentally beat down do you have to be check out after the 1st game,..?

I’d swap CJ and DeRozan. I think it would be beneficial for both teams (assuming we make a trade for a shooting 3).

    Interesting.

Derozan is a chucker though, High Volume, Westbrook like some nights.

Glad I asked, even if I was confused about what we were arguing about in the first place.

Yes, but CJ goes into some games not even looking to move the ball. Would be interesting to put a big slashing scoring guard next to Dame. Plus, DeRozan would have less pressure to score because Dame is far superior to Lowry offensively.
