I just saw a 4/20 thread in the off topic section and got to me thinking about the age old debate of leagalizing marijuana. There are so many different ways you can with this but I am definately in favor of legalizing it. I hate seeing responsible people getting arrested for having a few joints on them or some scenario like that. The government could rake in so much money from taxing pot like they do with alcohol and tobacco. Also, for decades the government has lied about the effects of Marijuana and it's absolutely idiotic. The Gateway drug theory is so f*cking stupid, I could write a 5,000 word essay about how it's not a gateway drug. People go out and get alcohol poisioning, drive drunk, get angry and beat on kids/women under the influence of alcohol and every Sunday the glory league (NFL) has half their sponsors of guys sitting around pounding beers. People high on marijuana just want to sit around, watch Chappelle Show, and eat some potatoe chips. Weed can be harmful, but nowhere near as harmful as tobacco or alcohol. So...criticize it or legalize it?
Eh....I smoke weed but I don't think it should be legalized like beer etc. Only because I think it would get out of hand and lead to alot of problems...like beer and cigarettes now.
I think it should be legalized, the government spends to much money on fighting that sh*t when it could be spending that money elsewhere. The criminal element behind it is also a problem, but legalizing it would seriously hurt these guys, because if there is anyone more cruel than the drug cartels in Big Business.
Weed shouldn't be legilized and neither should Alcohol. They make you do stupid dessions that could harm other people and yourself. So, its fine the way it is and Alcohol should not be legilized.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I smoke weed but I don't think it should be legalized</div>So if you got arrested and had to face legal fines, public embarresment, and overall ridiculous hastle for smoking a plant that has been around since the beginning of time would you still want it to be illegal?
Legalize it and illegalize tobacco and alcohol if it's so much worse. Just illegalize tobacco for the younger crowd and illegalize it totally when the addicts die off, same with beer. Just because harmful things like tobacco and alcohol are legal doesn't mean we should let more and more drugs become legal. Then you could say, hey, this thing isn't soooo much worse than Mary J, tobacco and alcohol. Lets make that legal too so the government can make more money. It won't hurt any more people than tobacco does.Edit: That'll happen because doing something illegally just makes things more exciting sometimes. So in addition to the many more people smoking this stuff there will be more people doing the other illegal drugs and eventually those may become legal. It's just too much smoke and drugs for me to handle. I get tired of cigarette smokers everywhere so if you add on weed to that it'll just be a disgusting environment. More 2nd hand smoke and sickness to go around. And for the people that get caught...they chose to do something illegal and you guys say it's not addicting so I have no reason to feel bad if they get caught and their lives are ruined. It was their choice.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I get tired of cigarette smokers everywhere so if you add on weed to that it'll just be a disgusting environment.</div>Ill-informed right there. Tobacco burns quickly in cigarettes, the nicotene fix is very quick which makes people smoke a ton of cigarettes a day. Someone will smoke a joint and get high for a long time. People don't chain-smoke joints. It's not the same thing. You won't see people going out for a Joint break at work in the city. If weed ever does get legalized it will be treated like alcohol is now.
And they'll do it in restaurants when you're trying to eat. The smoker/non-smoker sections don't help much. Airports too. It won't just be in your house while you're watching Harold and Kumar. If it's legalized people would do it anywhere in public and the number of people who use it will go up a great amount. Second hand smoke will increase, especially people smoking at home when they have families. I think there's already too much smoking and doing drugs without more drugs being legalized. I'd be very happy if they just got rid of it all.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>And they'll do it in restaurants when you're trying to eat. Also smoker/non smoker sections have been outlawed for years in the north, you southerners need to wake up and outlaw that.

But hey, if it were legalized, I wouldn't be against it.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ASUFan22 @ Apr 18 2007, 09:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>And it wouldn't be "cool" anymore right? </div>I can understand how you took it that way but that's not what I was getting at. If too many people use it, the cost would go up tremendously. Like I said, the government would get in on it and the demand and price would skyrocket...it would cost $200 for a dime....I can't even imagine.
Legalize that sh*t, for real... we've been through this a million times, so you all should know why I feel that way. You better hope mavsfan doesn't see this, otherwise get ready for a 20 page thread explaining why alcohol is better.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>price would skyrocket...it would cost $200 for a dime....I can't even imagine.</div>The price would go wayyyyy down man. The only reason it's expensive is because it's a black market, there are no rules or regulations. Weed would be less expensive if it got regulated and legalized.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (WELCOMEtotheJUNGLE @ Apr 18 2007, 11:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>So if you got arrested and had to face legal fines, public embarresment, and overall ridiculous hastle for smoking a plant that has been around since the beginning of time would you still want it to be illegal?</div>The thing is, you know it's illegal so you're smoking it knowing of the consequences. When you smoke it, you're basically saying "I dont care if I get caught"
I can definitely see why legalizing it has a downside, with the price going up, etc. I definitely think it should be decriminalized. Someone shouldn't have a criminal record for smoking a little weed.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (tHe_pEsTiLeNcE @ Apr 18 2007, 11:12 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>it should be legalized, but I don't think it should be sold in stores and stuff.</div>Well...if it's legalized, that means nothing can stop someone from opening a store and doing so.
