I see Collins developing for another year and then starting at the 5 alongside Griffin and Griffin has already started to transition to a more perimeter pick n pop oriented game so any drop in athleticism isn’t going to be that big of a deal. He also still has it in spades so it probably isn’t going anywhere for a while.

That roster wouldn’t be world beaters, but if Collins turns into what we think he can that’s a pretty damn good front court paired with a top 3 backcourt. Griffin is still a 20-8-5 guy.

I look at it this way. Turner and Aminu for Griffin is an upgrade. The cost for that upgrade is very little and the core remains in tact. A 3 big rotation of Nurk, Collins, and Griffin should supply plenty of minutes plus Collins can play more whenever Griffin is hurt. Bring in talent and worry about the rest later. We'd still have the TPE and tax-MLE to really just say fuck it and go all-in.

No doubt, that was a pretty weak video. I keep thinking about that CJ trade though. I wonder what teams would want Myles Turner and what we could get for him in return by bringing that team into it? How much value does he have?

Bucks? They are in the market for a center. Turner would be a pretty good fit I think. Would they do Turner for Middleton?
Blazers get Middleton (TPE), Luol Deng, Josh Hart, #23, 2019 1st via LAL unprotected
    Pacers get CJ
    Bucks get Myles Turner
Lakers get Tyler Zeller (non-guaranteed), Al Jefferson (only $4 million guaranteed), Darren Collison (only $2 million guaranteed)

    Add in the Griffin trade:
    Blazers get Blake Griffin
    Pistons get Turner, Aminu, #24

    Then call the Knicks:
    Blazers get Joakim Noah, #9
Knicks get Maurice Harkless, Caleb Swanigan, Jake Layman, PapaG, #23

Draft Mikal Bridges at #9 or if you really like someone in the 4-8 range offer the #9 and either our pick in 2019 or the Lakers pick in 2019 to move up.

    Dame/Baldwin/Napier (Keep in this scenario?)
    Middleton/Hart/Bridges/tax-MLE/Deng
    Griffin/Nurk/Collins/Leonard/Noah
Leaves just one open roster spot to fill plus we'd have two 1st round picks in 2019 (ours and LAL)

Maybe Nurkic comes off the bench, plays 24-28 minutes a night?

Mediocrity and keeping Dame & CJ together is false choice IMO.

Griffin declining as Collins comes into his own? Sounds like a near-perfect scenario.

Griffin would start next season, but Collins would still be getting 24ish MPG. Then the following season, perhaps their roles reverse? But certainly by the 3rd season...at which point Griffin is becoming a huge expiring contract.

I see zero downside to this trade. Yes, Griffin's salary is massive, and yes he has injury history. But, he's still a FAR more useful player than the even more egregiously overpaid Turner. With Dame/CJ/Nurk we're never gong to have cap space again, so adding more salary doesn't negatively impact cap flexibility (aside from super tax). We also kick out Terry's crutch (Aminu) and force him to stop playing a bench-tweener as our starting PF.

I'm not the hugest Griffin fan, but he'd easily be our best PF since Sheed. His ability to dribble and pass will alleviate a lot of the pressure on Dame and CJ - he's well above average at both of these for his position. Couple that with Nurk also being above average passing/dribbling for his position, and - with a new coach - we could have AMAZING ball movement leading to high percentage shots.

Obviously not much of a gambler. If Trader Bob was GM Collins would probably be gone in a Griffin deal.

I don't see Detroit giving up on Blake without seeing how the fit is with a new coach and why would Detroit want Melo for Blake?

Melo (assumimg he opts in) has one year on his contract. Griffin has 4 years on his contract including the last year being over $38 million when he's in his mid 30's. If Detroit resets they pretty much have to trade Griffin this summer or they risk getting stuck with him for the remaining years on a rebuilding team.

Really? Paying 50 mil for 24 minutes apiece at the PF spot?

If we give up CJ or Collins in a deal that brings back Griffin I'm gonna throw up.

but wouldn't he still have the no trade clause in his contract? I don't see him wanting to go to Detroit.
