36 California schools under lockdownhttp://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18203613/And in my area schools are shut down almost monthly because of threats. This is madness, a serious pain for schools and law enforcement who have to search every inch of these schools...99.9% of the time it's nothing, just some loser looking to miss a day of school. What do you guys think?

I think it depends on the event. if it's a suspecious person than no, if it's a ticking violin case than yes.I use the violin case because when I was in high school they evacuated school because there was a ticking violin case in the parking lot. it turned out to be a small bomb which likely wouldn't have done any damage but still its better being safe than sorry.for lockdowns, I really don't see a problem with locking down a school if there is a potential for any problem. just as long as the students can continue their education semi-normally.

Ticking violin case? who the hell playes the violin anymore besides 13 year old Asian girls? and they aren't any threat. And, people who make these threats should be fined $980,000. And if they can't come up with the money in a week, they should get 17 consecutive life terms in prison. That should teach those butt-f*cking, angry teenage faggots a lesson.

We have school tomorrow. There was a threat and we had to evacuate today, but I'll be there, along with only a few hundred people. :P

I think it is pretty pathetic how people call in threats and crap, especially after the whole Virginia Tech situation. Today somebody "found" a letter that said "There is a bomb in the building" in one of our buildings... nothing happened though. UTPD searched the building, and that was that.I think it's better to be safe and check it out, but it's still pathetic that people do these kinds of things as jokes just to get out of going to class.

Wow, things all of a sudden are becoming ridiculous ever since the V.T. shooting thing. The other day, we had a lockdown "practice" at 10 A.M. I was in gym at the time, and we all hid in the "corner" of the gym like huddled together. Just to make the situation more relaxed (because I, and a few others knew there was going to be a practice for the lockdown, almost every1 else didn't know because this is our schools first ever because they are making A HUGE deal out of the VT shootings) anyway I said "Great, Let's all hide in a corner so some guy can throw a grenade at us and kill us all." LOl.

I don't know man...it's debatable hence it being in the off topic debates section. I think the school just needs to do what's best for the kids..and how to keep the kids safe. I feel like people are getting too caught up in the shock effect of these events and forgets these are kids being victimized..even the Va Tech massacre..those are all kids..people don't care about the kids they just care about how much shock value it has and how horrific it was. They need to set up programs in schools for kids with mental problems, guidance counselors just don't cut it and kids need to stop trying to be tough by bringing a gun to school and shooting everyone up, it doesn't accomplish anything but in most cases suicide and pain for MANY other people..It pisses me off how these little brats make death threats...most of the time I don't even take them seriously because if you look at Columbine and Virginia Tech..there were no threats..they just did it. It scares me because it could be anybody..whether they show signs of mental problems or not.

I think when they keep showing it on the news, some of those low self esteem kids say, "Hey, this guy is cool". They basically make him look like a hero to these kids, and it makes other kids want to do it and it gives them the idea to do it.
