Moving out to Las Vegas, Kansas and Texas. Wrong direction. The last California restaurant chain that was in Oregon and was really good was Sam's Hofbrau. They used to have a Sam's Hofbrau near Portland State U. years ago and I miss it. Of course, I miss several really good restaurants, Mannings, a cafeteria style restaurant based in the old Olds' and King department store, a broasted chicken joint on the corner of 'A' and State street in Oswego, Shakey's pizza, Morrison's Cafeteria in the South Eastern U.S., Rose's on the corner of N.W. 23rd. and Burnside, the Carnival near OHSU and Gene and Joe's on 99E near Gladstone. I'm sure there are others but I can't think of them off the top of my head.
Don't have a dog and don't want no dogs sitting near me when I'm eating. I once visited a friend who invited me for dinner. He had a small dog that ate off his plates. A quick rinse under cold water and he called it good. Kind of turned my stomach. I haven't seen him since. Anyhow, he was from Canada and kind of weird.
I actually at dinner at Lazy Dog last night. They have an outdoor area to eat and people routinely bring their dogs.
Wake me up when the Portland area gets a Texas Roadhouse franchise. Another chain with surprisingly (very) good food. If Fresno can have one, we certainly must be on the list....
