College debt is a whole different kind of stupid in itself. So add that to the 10 year debt and this kid is totally screwed. That’s fine though, hey if you guys like seeing 15 year olds punished this way, I will remember that in future posts regarding any person underage and how they should be viewed according to that logic.
I read your post Cippy….and you assume some sensationalized stuff along the way....kid is young...got caught...got fined...he either pays his debt for his crime or not.....what he did wasn't a sign of suicidal tendencies.
You’re progressive until it comes to a 15 year olds livelihood and then the pitchforks come out because he made a dumb decision. I told you he should get a consequence but it’s a little stupid and illogical to put this kid 35 million in debt for 10 years. You’re telling me there is no other consequences he could of faced? Maybe put him in some juvenile program for a year with other kids who fucked up. That way he’s held accountable but also has the help and teaching there by trained adults
how about regarding anyone underage who burns down someone's life....and college has paid off for many people and led to success....if you don't value it, that's your choice but it's far from stupid if you want to become a doctor or engineer, etc....
I’m saying it’s a possibility he ends up killing himself once he gets to the age of 20. He probably also won’t give a shit to try and go work because most of his paycheck will be gone anyways. It’s hard enough for full time students to keep a job, school, and live on their own. Now let’s make that even harder for this kid till he’s 25. Yeah that’s teaching him a real lesson. In the long run it’s actually gonna do worse for him as opposed to teaching a lesson
not necessarily...he could turn his life around and become a valuable member of society...and yes...it is teaching him a lesson. He certainly made it harder on folks who spent their entire lives building their homes just to lose them in flames. How about that debt?

could be but seems like any competent defense attorney would not garner this kind of punishment for anything less than premeditated arson. details are unknown to me but I wouldn't assume it was just a dumb prank given the outcome.
That’s what it is these days. There isn’t a war going on like there was early 2000’s. I know a guy who went over there and that’s all he did. Didn’t do much and got paid a lot for it. I know a girl who went into the navy to get money to get her tits done. It’s not to take away from people that serve because there are dangerous positions within the military still but for the most part that’s what it is today. Not a whole lot going on
The thing that irritates me is that almost all of us have done stupid stupid things. Most of us got away with it or got lucky nobody died. People want to string this kid up by the balls over this because of and ONLY because of the outcome. Not that this kid is any worse than thousands of other kids that do stupid stuff.
Right and he was with his friends and probably tried to be funny or “cool”, threw the firework in the forest. Does anybody really think he thought it would be that huge of a fire? There is no way he did. He did something stupid. Like I said, it would be better off him getting some form of juvenile treatment, kept for a year with some other idiots and taught a lesson rather than keep him in debt for 10 years when shits already tough out there when it comes to jobs and school. That night when I saw the beginning of that fire I said that shit was gonna be huge if they didn’t get it contained. Overnight, it went fucking crazy. Maybe somebody should also put some blame on Kate brown and some of the early decisions that were made that day before the fire got out of control. But yeah I’m sure putting him in debt for 10 years is really gonna keep him motivated and make him feel like he can go forward. Instead it’s doing the opposite. They should of chose a different consequence.
I actually had a friend accidentally burn down a house once. Luckily, no one was in it. He was 18, and it's changed him foe the better and it still bothers him that it happened. He didn't mean for it to happen, he was fucking around with fireworks. He's not a pyromaniac or a bad person.
I think he learned his lesson by pissing off a whole major metropolitan area. I don't think $37M is going to be the deciding factor in him learning from this..if he didnt already, he never will. So essentially, you're advocating going "eye for an eye" financially with a 15 year old kid.
