Lebron was squared up though, Durant hit him right in the chest. Lebron took up that space. I am sort of cheering for Cleveland, but I really don’t care who wins because it’s not the Blazers. So I don’t have much of a rooting interest. I just want consistent officiating, Lebron to be awesome and good basketball. I got 2 out of 3.

So I've gone back and looked at that replay a dozen times. If you line up LeBron's feet and shoulders with a stationary point like the lines of the perforated circle at the foul line, his left foot remains stationary for the most part. His right foot slides over quite a bit which allows his body to drift to the left and he slightly turns his shoulder into Durant.

It's such a close call and I can't remember when a block/charge has been changed due to replay when it was obvious that the defender was outside of the circle.

Thanks...knew there had been at least one occasion because they talked about it this morning but couldn't remember when. Still, a very rare call and on such a close play with under a minute to go in a Finals game....easily questionable no matter which way they change it to after making a call.

If all you got to do is get into a guarding position? (hands up) head and shoulders square but still be able to slide in front of a guy already driving committed to the hoop? wow
In my mind it was a block as he was trying to jump in front and get the offensive foul call.
I normally think the defenders get the raw end of this game now, but deliberate jumping in front of a guy even in a hands up guarding position is weak.

I think it was debatable who the foul was on... My problem is there wasn’t conclusive evidence to overturn it IMO... you are talking about a split second if LeBron was there on time... and the side angle looks like it was clearly a charge... so to overturn the call on the floor on a play that could be argued either way, and decide the game with that, it’s just wrong

Not sure what the current rule is, but IMO it needs to be a foul in the future. If not then it will be like college a few years back where there were just too many offensive fouls called. I don't like it when the defensive guys leans in one direction to draw the foul.

But then I also don't like it when the offensive guys gets to slap a defensive players hand away or draw a foul with a sweeping motion.

    Obvious block.

Watch the reply and decide for yourself when it is that Durant has "started his shooting motion". Then see how far Lebron slides to his left after that.

Durant has clearly started his shooting motion by this frame. Lebron's left shoulder will contact Durant's chest at the pink dot. Lebron already needed to "establish" himself along the green path by now.

Technically KD has started his "shooting motion" in this frame as he has "gathered the ball". If he were fouled at this moment it would be called a shooting foul.

3 points in defense of JR Smith:

    1. There's no guarantee the Cavs could've scored even if he'd called timeout.
    2. He got a pretty epic OR, and may have prevented the Warriors from scoring in doing so.
    3. GEORGE HILL MISSED THE GO-AHEAD FT! Why is JR getting flack and Hill not?

That would go down as the ALL TIME BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED IN THE NBA!
If you could somehow do it Three Stooges style and get CP3, Harden, and Doc Rivers all in a single motion then the world should just stop existing, as nirvana for all living beings would be achieved.

I thought you of all people would know that you don't need to be set to pick up a charge.
It drives me crazy that SO MANY people think feet NEED to be set in order to draw a charge - it's just not true.

I think most people know you don't have to be set to draw a charge. You also can not be sliding/going under a player once they have begun takeoff. This is so close, that is why people are debating. But I've yet to see anyone say you have to be completely stationary to draw a charge.

Regardless if LBJ was set or not.
Regardless if it should've been a block or a charge.
It was called a Charge on the floor.
With a call THAT close, you have to stay with whats called on the floor.
    Poor rule.

My only other issue is people saying. sliding feet means it's an automatic block call.
Feet can help tell you if a player is in position, bit it is not the deciding factor if a defender is in position to take the charge or not.
But it's okay, many coaches, parents & players don't understand that. They were taught wrong when they were young.

MM did. He said "Sliding. Not set." - and I think a lot of people feel that's the rule, and it's absolutely NOT.
I'm not debating the play, just trying to get people to stop using "sliding not set" as the determining factor for charge/block.

He may be referring to you can't slide under a player once they are going up. If you are, that has been a block since forever. You certainly can be sliding/moving when someone is dribbling if you beat them to a spot....no question. Once someone is airborne/going up, you can't slide under (sliding, not set) and that's what I think he was referring to as it was pertaining to this particular instance.

The Cavs blew this game but if they wouldn't have, would we be roasting Kerr today? Play after play in the 4th where the warriors switched and Curry was left guarding LBJ? We sure roasted Terry for allowing similar situations and rightly so.

The Warriors have looked good but not great this post season, especially after losing Iguodala. This whole "greatest mismatch ever " description by the media is ridiculous. When you see guys like Looney, Bell, Cook, and Young getting minutes.......the Cavs supporting cast does not look so bad. Really it just comes down to one extra shooter for the Warriors.

Perhaps that's what he meant. But nobody is arguing that. Maybe debating whether LBJ was sliding on this play, but nobody is arguing that you can slide under a player.

James is the eventual winner, hands down. No one else comes close.

Yep, the Cavs goofed big time. They should have won in regulation.

However, in spite of all of LeBron's excellent play, I'm just waiting for the Warriors to hit their stride.
