Saw Elton on my honeymoon at Caesar's in Vegas when he surprise-subbed in for Celine Dion for 2 weeks. I wasn't stoked to see either of them, my wife was looking forward to Celine, and the hostess was so apologetic she set us up 3rd row center. It was ridiculous and well-done. Rocket Man went on for like 10 minutes, and they had home video of topless Marilyn Monroe in the background as Norma Jean was playing. Hadn't been a fan until then (just ignorance, not that I thought he sucked or anything) but it was a well-done show. I don't go to many, but it was the best.
Ha! I have never been a fan of those that perform in those shows. But like you say, just ignorance, especially on my part. Once I see one, most are very well done. I usually start with, oh hell! How am I going to sit through this?
I saw his concert at the Moda in 2005 right on the main floor and was so in awe the whole time I felt like crying when it was over. You sit there getting chills up and down your spine because he's so amazing and you know you're in the presence of a genius who's music will still be played hundreds of years from now like Beethoven.
I've been watching this Paul McCartney concert in Grand Central Station in New York City. It was live from 5:00 to about 6:30 pm, last night. I've watched it repeat for the last 12 hours. It's great. Watch. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/...ey-livestream-secret-new-york-concert-720725/
He sings a song to his wife Nancy and we see her in the audience. I looked her up. Paul had better have his assets audited every year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_England_Motor_Freight
Well, I'm sure he will be admired for a long long time but I don't think I could compare him with Beethoven.
I watched for over 12 hours last night. I just woke up, thinking that this was the greatest concert in history. (Bias: I like his brief tunes and historical stories.) I repeat...watch it. It's one and a half hours long. I also woke up thinking that this exhausting tour will kill him at age 76. Only about the first 5 cities have been announced. We'll see a legal inheritance dogfight between his daughters and the Mafia. They keep singers working way into old age till they drop, like Frank Sinatra, Gene Pitney, and many others.
