What a weird move. It makes a degree of sense from Clippers perspective, he’s either a back up or replacement for DeAndre and they ease up the logjam at the guard position but why would Wizards need Rivers and why would they let their best center go? Surely they aren’t going to play Mahinmi 30+ minutes a night and Morris is too small to play center consistently.

I feel like the Wizards will land Dwight Howard, Nikola Vucevic, Tyson Chandler, Kyle Oquinn, or Dewayne Dedmon

Howard is a good shout. They were interested in him when he hit FA in 2016 I think.

I like O’Quinn and especially Dedmon as bargain bin signings.

Dedmon they'd have to trade for, he opted in. Oubre and Mahinmi for Dedmon makes a lot of sense for both teams.

I doubt the Wizards (can they get a new name already? ) are done. Expect more moves.

I don’t think Atlanta will want that much for him, they are in rebuild mode. On the other hand he’s perfect center for them - not good enough to win games on his own but if they build a half decent team within 2-3 years they can plug him in and he should still perform well enough.

Jerry West has made many creative trades. Speaking of guard for center, remember starter Divac, who seemed like the future of the Lakers, for draftee Kobe? How about Bonzi Wells. And every minor player on Golden State contributes efficiently. West sits on the Holy Pantheon with Bob Whitsitt.

Well, I like Gortat and think he will fit in at Clippers. He’s also much cheaper than Jordan and expires in a year so they will clear cap space. They also didn’t need Rivers anymore having drafted SGA and Robinson, they probably have too many guards even after offloading one of them.

This is weird from Wizards perspective though. They are left without a starter quality center and they didn’t clear any cap space as they make the same. They might have needed a back up guard but they could have easily got someone similar to Rivers in free agency for next to nothing like Celtics did with Larkin. They must be planning some significant moves in the upcoming weeks to get their front court back.

Also as a Polish fan it will be refreshing to see Gortat on a new team so I don’t have to listen to Wizards news for another year.

The early thought is that they're going after Howard for vet min.

Somebody has to take Dwight so it may as well be them. He’s a relatively low risk move at vet minimum, if he’s causing you trouble you can just release him off his contract. A motivated Dwight could still be a weapon but it’s far more likely he will be a problem.

I may have missed it, but I'm surprised nobody never brought up the idea that Olshey might go after Howard which could be why he's hesitant on offering the qualifying offer to Nurkic.

Update, apparently Blazers made the QO to Nurkic so we can have a center rotation of Nurkic and Howard

The devil made me do it! :devilwink:

you know DH would be a decent get if we got him on the cheap, and lost Davis. He had a good year last year.
I could see Dame & CJ embracing him and coaching him to get revenge on LA & Houston.

If the Clippers can get rid of Rivers and the Nets can get rid of Mozgov... why can’t we get rid of Turner?

You know, since they signed him to a huge deal I think they want to keep him as part of the core going g forward. They knew he had weakness's to his game but they like his strengths more, I would guess?
Its not like they didn't know what they were getting, they got exactly what they wanted.
