I would SPECULATE that Pitino liked the kid, or wouldn't have recruited him. What he said at draft time could be real or it could be just Pitino talking up a former recruit, because he wants future recruits to see him as a guy that helps them get drafted. At the end of next season we will know more about Simons. Right now we KNOW nothing.
If Pitino coached him I would not give any validity to him phrasing Simons. But as of right now he is out of coaching and I don't think he has much to gain by talking him up. He gets zero credit for his success. If I am Pitino I get out of coaching and into a front office of an NBA team. Good solid evaluations would only help.

Olshey contacted the Spurs about Kawhi recently...we didn't make the cut. Article said Pop thought it would make us too good in the West. I just searched Blazers rumors and that one was listed....no link..I'll see if I can find it again.
