    They will finish higher than us, I’m not even convinced we will finish higher than the Jazz, Thunder, Pelicans, Nuggets, Mavs, or hell even the Spurs AFTER trading Kawhi.

    What gives the notion that they will without gutting there young players from the Lakers. I believe he will Laker just not this year. Spurs was smart they would hard ball with the Lakers and especially Leonard this year. If I did trade him it would be a east not west team.

    In the dark days, LAL leadership was clueless (yes, including Jerry West)... and it didn't matter. Everyone wanted to go to the Lakers. If things somehow went south, they would just make all of their contracts end at the same time, and get the best in the league (e.g. how they got Shaq). Things changed with Durant, and later Lillard able to parley giant shoe deals while playing for small market teams - this had never been done before. Whispers among the players were that you didn't need to play for LA anymore, because salary were so enormous, they could just buy an extra house and live there in the offseason.

    With Magic running the show, he decided to try the old ways, clearing space for the league's biggest stars. And now, we see that it's worked. It's a dark day for small market teams in general, and really most all other teams, too.

    This makes the East easier to win. Happy cities right now are Boston, Toronto, and Philadelphia.

    In next season's standings, all teams in the East go up a couple of wins, in the West, down a couple.
