I always hear sports fans saying, 'athletes never go to jail'...etc...etc...like they get special treatment. I don't think they do. 1. Judges have no reason/incentive to let athletes get off the hook. 2. Athletes have the best lawyers that can work deals...etc... 3. There's a nation-wide jail/prison overcrowding, and most athletes that get in trouble are not chronic offenders and therefor don't get the harsher sentences that warrent jail-time. I think most fans have little understanding of the justice system. Lots of people that deserve jailtime are just getting fined/probation....it's the way things are heading. Like I said, judges have no incentive to let athletes off....so I don't understand the notion of 'well he's an athlete, he will get off'.

They all have sick lawyers but look at some athletes BCB that have gotten in an insane amount of trouble and have somehow gotten out of it. Anthony Mason was getting arrested every week it seemed in the midst of his career and he never got put in jail. Also, look at a guy like Chris Henry in the NFL.....weed possession, sex crime, DUI, providing alcohol to minors, multiple weapons charges, and after all of that the guy gets only 90 days in jail. One of my neighbors got 2 DUI's and has to spend a year and a half in prison. To say these guy are equals to citizens in the justice system is not right. Even the ones that do get jail time, which is rare like Henry, they still have a job when they come back. If you were Ray Lewis in real life and got accused of killing someone, you're entire life would go down the sh*t hole. You would lose your job, money, and probably family. Also Tank Johnson, the guy has pounds of weed and a ton of random ammunition in his house and they let the guy play in the super bowl? I mean christ, these guys make idiotic decisions people in the real world would never get away with.

I don't think this only applies to athletes but relatively to the rich and famous. And I do think they get some leeway than your average person because of their status.

But like I said, what the hell would a judge have to gain by letting these people off?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>But like I said, what the hell would a judge have to gain by letting these people off?</div>They gain nothing. It's just the player that gains not having a legit punishment. Which is a shame. Now if they dont let them off. The judge is going to deal with stuff like death threats in the mail stuff like that
