I honestly don’t hate this move. Stauskas was a poor acquisition even at veteran minimum because he’s honestly not going to be of any real value to us IMO but Curry’s shooting should be helpful off the bench. We needed this. The issue is that it’s really just a one year deal if he does well which has been pointed out.
Jesus christ you're never happy. Portland signs Stauskas. You freak out because he's yet to shown to be an nba role player. Instead he's looking to ressurect his career. Portland signs Curry. You try to paint it as a lose, lose situation. I bet if Portland were to have signed LBJ, PG13 or trade for Kawhi. You'd find a way to say it was a shit move also. The sad part is, you don't even realize how toxic you're being with your posts.
I like that some people think we should give up serious assets, including CJ, for Kawhi, with the assumption that the culture here would make him resign instead of leaving for LA. The same people think the culture has no way to keep Seth "Not Steph" Curry after a year. It is one way or the other. You don't get to bitch about one and cheer on the other. Pick.
It would be a huge risk kind of like what okc did last year. They swung for the fences and PG signed a long term deal with them luckily even after everybody thought for sure he would go to LA this season. Obviously we weren’t gonna win a title this year or next but I wish Neil made some moves that would at least help dame in the future for when the warriors are on the downhill. I hope that simons and Trent turn out pretty well. They have a lot of upside.
So you wish Olshey would make moves for the future but he drafts two guys that you admit have a lot of upside after drafting another guy with upside last year? I swear people don't even think about what they type.
I’m thinking quite clearly and guess what? We have no assets. None. Nothing to really work with unless you want to attach picks. Simons and Trent could work out. They could both be busts. Neil had all this talk about assets for years and he’s let two of them go for nothing in crabbe and Davis. Turner isn’t an asset. Meyers isn’t an asset. Neil does not want to get rid of cj.
Seth is pretty good, I’m happy with this. People desperately asked for a lights-out shooter of the bench and he is exactly that, hope he is healthy.
He wasn’t after the contract, I’m just saying these are guys Neil said would be assets. Davis actually was an assset yet we let him go. Turner would be an asset on a much cheaper contract but barely and Meyers on a cheaper contract probably wouldn’t be one at all honestly. Crabbe would of been a great asset on a cheap contract.
Matching the Crabbe contract was a mistake but I'm fine with it, standard overpay and paying for potential that all teams whiff on from time to time. The Turner and Meyers contracts are indefensible. No other team was offering similar. Neither had starter upside. They were even worse than the Darius Miles contract. Either are fireable offenses for an NBA GM.
Thanks for bringing that to our attention, Gronk. Olshey is quite the chaperone. Curry is a one-night stand. Entertainment for one season, then he vamooses out of state. Leaving us alone with SteakSauce.
This I agree with. Crabbe at $5million would be an asset. Meyers at $2million would be someone you waive, stretch and forget. Turner at $5million would maybe be a minor asset.
Am I the only one who wonders if the Turner signing impacted the return on Crabbe? Like, did Turner's presence and role impact Crabbe's mindset and opportunities? Is it possible that had Turner not been signed, Crabbe would have been better for us? Probably not the case, but professional athletes can be so fragile sometimes, I can't help but wonder if one impacted the other.
I'd rather have Crabbe than Turner right now. People forget resigning Crabbe was the thing to do. He had that extremely small cap hold before we matched the offer the Nets gave him. Neil "had" to use the cap (and did so in signing Turner to that ridiculous deal) before matching Crabbe which put us way over the cap. It was a bad summer to have cap space because everyone had cap space. You wonder if he could have taken on some bad deals with 2nd rounders or something instead of signing Turner. Probably not for that year. In hindsight, resigning just Crabbe would have been better. Then we wouldnt have Nicholsons stretched money on the books too.
Curry is a good signing if the kid can stay healthy. But Curry and Nik got sign until Simons and Trent gets developed there rookie year.
Nets forced our hand but we did not have to match that offer. We should not have, there was no way Crabbe was worth 75% of the contract we had just given to Dame. If we had not signed Turner and let Crabbe and Leonard go, we would have probably still done fairly fine in 2016-17 and would have been able to absorb several bad deals in the following year and acquire picks. The 2015-16 campaign gave the wrong impression that this team was 'young and talented'. We had two young and talented players on the roster, the rest was just what we should have expected them to be in 2015 - journeymen players who can play 15-20 mpg off the bench and that's all.
