Steals and blocks per 100 possessions leaguewide were at an all time low this year, coinciding with the scorer's table being moved back. Do you think that stats are no longer to be trusted as accurate with the scorer's table apparently obscuring the vision of statkeepers? Or is it just a coincidence?
I've seen games where I count 6-8 Biedrins blocks and they'll end up giving him 4 or 5. Probably not a coincidince.
I can't say that means defense is worse, since blocks and steals mean relatively little to the overall way defense should be played.

OT-Stats are going to evolve, and within a few years they will provide even the armchair fans with some evidence behind their homerism if they so wish to use it. But for now, some stats are better than others.

These are strong methods that will be incredibly useful for the future, while they mostly work on a team level. Statistics are getting better, not worse, you just need to know where to look.
