I was ok with 3 years at 15 as a slight overpay. I actually almost posted 12 per would be perfect. This is perfect
Which is why I'd play him at the back up 5. He'd be fine in that role if he wasn't so damned expensive. He'd certainly be better than Meyers. I like that Zach has put on some muscle, but I still don't think he's ready to play the 5, either physically or mentally. Give him another year and he should be ready to be our starting 4 with spot minutes backing up Nurk at the 5. BNM
You know what, fuck the TPE. I’d take Beasley over any potential TPE target. So either sign Beasley, or focus on bigger trades. Then call it an offseason.
In one year, his average made FG distance went from 3.2 feet in San Antonio to 12.5 feet in Atlanta. It looks like he discovered he has a jump shot, or more likely Bud would let him shoot it and Pop wouldn't. In the process, his TS% fell from .645 to .599, which is still quite respectable (and exactly his career average) and significantly better than Nurk's career best .528. For comparison, Nikola Jokic, the $148 million man, had a TS% of .603 last season. Obviously, Jokic can do a lot of other things Dedmon can't, but it does show that Dedmon isn't a complete offensive zero. BNM
I still think they should take on a contract for a draft pick with the TPE so they can then use that pick to sweeten their offers for Love or others.
I just can’t see Cleveland trading us love without asking for Collins in return. I’m just not interested in that. I’d rather go after Kawhi.
It’s not about whether he can shoot a little bit, it’s about whether he can make the defense respect him enough to abandon hedging Dame and C.J. Connaughton could shoot a bit. Napier could shoot a bit. But no one respected them enough to actually adjust any of their schemes. I hate to say this, but unless something changes, Meyers is going to get another opportunity to play.
I wouldn't give up Collins either. Maybe if Swanigan has another big summer league they would be fooled into thinking he's a better prospect.
Now that I think about it I think we’ll see a Meyers/Collins duo with the second unit. And theoretically it COULD work. Offensively Meyers floats on the perimeter and spaces the court like the bitch he is, and Collins plays closer to the basket. Defensively Meyers plays center, Collins PF. Another option would be Biggie instead of Meyers, same role.
I'm not claiming Dedmon is the next Steph Curry, but have you looked at his shooting stats from last season? He shot a very respectable .471 from 10 - 16 feet and .470 from 16 feet to the 3-point line, and he did so on a significant number of attempts. As I mentioned, his average made FG distance was 12.5 feet, compared to 2.4 feet for Ed Davis. I'm not claiming Dedmon is the next LaMarcus Aldridge either, but to compare him to another mid-range shooter we're all familiar with, Dedmon shot better from those distances than Aldridge (.471 vs. .438 from 10 - 16 feet and .470 vs. .431 from 16 feet to the 3-point line). He also had a greater average made FG distance than Aldridge (12.5 feet vs. 9.8 feet). Obviously, Dedmon can't carry an offense or demand the defensive attention Aldridge can, but if he can repeat last year's shooting, he'd at least keep opposing defenses honest (or make them pay if they aren't). I'm not a huge Dedmon proponent, but if the alternative is Meyers Leonard, sign me up. BNM
