It is caused by eating high purine foods and getting dehydrated. Prolonged dehydrations will generate a fucking stone too big to ever come through and it just stays and grows. I waited for two years until the machine was available to do Lithotripsy. Where they blast that stone up into smaller pebbles. Ha! then you get to pass all that shit out through you know where. Man that ain't pretty. It took about 8 10 day to clear. Fuck!
I've passed four kidney stones. The first was a huge surprise. My wife rushed me to the emergency room. Had to stop along the way so I could puke out the open door. The second one got passed in my apartment in Seattle overnight. I laid in a hot bath all night moaning and groaning. The third was passed while driving from Portland to Seattle. The fourth was passed while in a night class at a local college. I sat in the back row so no one could see my face or hear my whimpering. Kidney stones are hell on Earth.
I never said it was easy. Remember the part about me puking? I've had to man up about some real pain many times in my life.
I do believe you. My point was, it goes away when you do pass the thing. When you can't, you can guess what happens.
Arthritis WAS a severe problem until my talented Rheumatologist introduced RASUVO injectable. One self injected shot in the stomach is no big deal once a week. This product has a chemical that was used for cancer patients when a pharma company applied it to the people who suffer from arthritis. To me, Arthritis is like mosquitos: Why do we have them?. @Lanny, as you know, the sharp pain permeates muscle and bone. Once you have it, the next hard task is the next painful adventure.
Sly is almost right. But for one small thing. Never take ibuprofen and alvieve together. Double up the ibuprofen or alvieve but not together. I been suffering through muscle damage in the rib cage/back area this week. Spent the whole damn day in the hospital Monday. Well, during the day now, I take 1 aspirin, 2 ibuprofen, 1 Tylenol, and drink beer until comfortable.
Wow, I completely forgot about this thread. I guess an update is in order: long story short, I went back to the doctor several times over the past few months, with various medicines and dosages. The first time I went there in March, after I made this thread, the pain was so bad that I couldn't even wear a shoe or walk. I had to be wheeled in to the doctor's office in a wheel chair. Not fun. I eventually got some Indomethacin 50mg capsules, and they help significantly. Right now, there's almost no swelling (just feels a little tight), zero pain, and I can walk on it fine. When the flare-ups happen, I just pop some capsules for a couple of days. My doctor's office (Peacehealth Medical) is completely incompetent though, so I'll probably have to go to a foot doctor for any further diagnosis. Peacehealth is THE worst medical group I've ever dealt with. I had some unrelated tests done for something else back in November, and went to a specialist last week for further testing, and he could only find yes and no answers in the charts from Peacehealth regarding that November appointment. No joke. No details about levels of this or that; just yes and no answers. Anyways....thanks everyone for the suggestions and advice!
I recommend a rheumatologist. They sucked out the offending acid with a needle giving me instant relief, followed by a prescription of allopurinol, which I'm still on with no more gout. This is what happens to people with no more functioning kidneys.
Both are really bad....like Lanny I started Allopurinol 5 years ago and haven't had a gout attack since. Stay away from asparagus very bad for those with gout. Just last year I had surgery to remove kidney two stones that were blocking my bladder to urteha (sp?). Doctors can test your uric acid with a simple blood test, they know what levels will cause gout and its either control by med or diet or both.
I have gout. No attack in over a year but I've had them where I couldn't wear a shoe. Take away the damage gout does and I'd probably take a day or two of agony over broccoli.
The quality of health care has been on the decline in many areas. Many health care providers are cutting costs and corners. Maybe it is a coinsidence, but the more our government gets involved, the more difficult it has become to find quality care. But that is not the reason for my post. I will share my own true horror story, but funny. My large dog ran full speed into the side of my leg, tearing the miniscus. My doctor ordered a MRI at the local hospital. At the hospital, I was met by two very nice nurses. One informed me everything was ready for my ultrasound. I just stood there with my mouth open, not knowing what to say. Finally one of the nurses caught on, and said. Really mister, at your age, you should know better than to get pregnant. The main nurse still did not catch on that she was setting up for the wrong test. After a long pause, with two of us laughing, she finally got it. After the MRI, that was with a different nurse (hospital entered incorrect test in the computer). I ran into the two ultrasound nurses. And told them. Good news, I'm having twins. We all had a good laugh. But I will never feel comfortable in that hospital again.
Me too, I hate broccoli. I passed four kidney stones in the late 80s. The first one I had no idea what was going on. My wife drove me to the emergency room. Had to stop half way there and lean out the side of the car and puke, the pain was so bad. Then, I had one in the middle of the night in my apartment in Renton. Oh my God, the pain was so bad that I moaned all night in a fairly loud voice. Must have driven my neighbors nuts. Got some relief in a hot bath. The third one happened while I was driving to Seattle. About half way there, it hit. I toughed it out. The fourth one happened during a class at PCC. I sat in the back of the room and quietly whimpered. Haven't had a stone since. All four of my attacks happened within a 6 month period. The only person I'd wish this off on is the dick that ran off with my ex wife. He rot in hell. Stole from me on his way out the door.
