QUOTE

The NBA announced today that Marcus Camby of the Denver Nuggets has won the 2006-07 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award. The 6-11 forward/center averaged a league-high 3.30 blocks to go along with 11.7 rpg (tied for fourth in the NBA), 11.2 ppg and a career-high 3.2 apg. Camby led the Nuggets in starts (70) and recorded a career-best 32 games with double figures in both points and rebounds. Camby also led all centers in steals (1.24 spg), while his assists were second among centers. Since entering the NBA in 1996, Camby has been one of the game?s best shot blockers. His career average of 2.56 blocks ranks fourth among all active players and has led the league in blocks on three occasions ? 1997-98, 2005-06 and 2006-07. Camby joins George Johnson, Dikembe Mutombo, Hakeem Olajuwon and Theo Ratliff with three blocked shots titles, and is just one title behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Mark Eaton for the most all-time. Camby received 431 points, including 70 first-place votes, from a panel of 130 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. San Antonio?s Bruce Bowen finished second with 206 points and his teammate Tim Duncan finished third with 158 points. Players were awarded five points for each first-place vote, three points for each second-place vote and one point for each third-place vote received.
Source: http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/458..._of_year_award/Thoughts?I personally agree with this award being given to Camby.
Yes!I'm happy for Camby, he deserved this award as much as anybody. He deserves the recognition for once, he doesn't have any all star appearances or defensive first teams. This is his third straight 3+ bpg average. I don't remember the exact number, but not many people have done it.
I don't see how he got this over Duncan. I haven't seen more than a half dozen games of his this year so I can't talk that empirically on it but he must be great on team defense, since on man to man defense Duncan blows him out of the water.

Bowen I don't like, but he is great on D he should deff be up there.Iggy should get more credit. And Artest damn were are the votes for him WTF this dude is crazy good on D.Sorry don't mean to be hating on Duncan, but 3rd? WTF lol

This award is definetley way deserved.Know why? The Nuggets wouldn't even win more than 30 games without Camby. He means that much to his team. The Spurs could still win 50 games without Bowen and the Kings could win the same amount of gams they did this year without Artest. But Camby means everything to his team.

I have to agree with Pestilence... Camby isn't that great on man-to-man defense, and his pick-and-roll defense is pretty much non-existent. He rarely ever comes out to trap or switch on the screen, but instead he just sits back. Most of his blocks easily come from help defense, and his team defense is pretty much what won the award for him, and he deserves it.
Camby was deserving, I'm happy he got recognition (like Tony said). He's an outstanding shot blocker and rebounder, he's one of the only defensive presences Denver has had in a long time, and he should have been an All-Star this year, by the way.I personally wanted Shane Battier to get it, but I knew he wouldn't.
Camby is a team defender, not really man to man. That is why Nene is on Duncan. He is better than anybody in the league with help side D and the best shot blocker. I have said this over and over, without Camby we would be a below .500 team.

But I guess WTF was a little to much cause he is good on D I just don't think he should have been top 3 this year. And why does Artest never get enough votes DAMN. I am not saying he should have won it this year before BigMo changes my words around again.
QUOTE (Camby23Land @ Apr 28 2007, 12:14 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Camby is a team defender, not really man to man. But Yeah we would be a lot worse of.

He is intimidating, a great shot blocker, a good rebounder, and big.

I am not saying we would not be worse, but not below .500 now even close.
I think this is a pretty decent choice. He is one of the best shot blockers in the game, and IMO, the best backside/help shot blocker. I would have just liked to have seen Bowen get it. He is such a great defender, and he works at it so hard, but he has never won the award. I really think that he deserves one before he retires.
