Why did Paul George get 4 years, $137 million but Butler only gets 4 years, $110 million. I know George has one more year of experience. He was in the 7-9 years of service max range. Butler only has 6 years but this extension would take place after his 7th year with a higher cap and in the same amount of years of service as George had. That is the same kind of bullshit that led to Aldridge leaving as we couldn't offer as much money in an extension as we could if we waited until he was an UFA. The NBA needs to change that rule in the next CBA.

Butler can get 4/140 from another team or 5/180 from the Wolves next summer.

    Why take 4/110 now?

Yeah.... it's a no brainer... unless he's worried about his health.

Stupid ass rule. If the NBA just fixed this it would lead to smaller markets retaining their players better instead of letting them get to unrestricted free agency.

Yeah I amended my post to reflect what I was thinking.

I was also going to comment that maybe it's not about the money and perhaps (dreaming) he'd accept that from us, but I see someone else already suggested more or less that.

Also, I was thinking of it in terms of adding an amount greater than what he was offered to our existing contracts, and that with penalties it could effectively cost the Blazers 3X that amount.

But of course if we could send them some contracts (preferably not CJ) like some combination of Turner/Meyers/Aminu/Harkless, then it wouldn't add that much to our salary structure so, yeah....

    GET HIM NEIL!!!

That is, unless Neil has some reason to believe he's a team killer, which it kind of seems he might be.

In other words, I have no idea about anything.

    Que sera, sera.

Well since he's not a free agent that is impossible. Instead he'll sign there for the Tax-MLE next summer.

I don't really want Butler. Not a fan of his attitude and this will be his third team in as many years. It's also very clear that he wants to play in a big market with Kyrie. PASS.

That's what everyone thought about Paul George though.

How can you turn down a 100M? Life must be hard that 100M is not enough.

Gotta be able to feed the kids.

He will get the money from somewhere else that he feels is more competitive.

If you read the non-ESPN spun up BS, Paul George has always said he wants to win above all else. He has always had a good attitude.

Butler, on the other hand, has been cited as having issues with teammates and plays with a chip on his shoulder due to being ignored for so long. So, there's a difference.

Blazers should try to get him but trading CJ for him would be a lateral move.

If there is a reasonable chance to re-sign him, yes.

Hahahahah I totally forgot about this. Those Pacers teams were good! And we almost had Hibbert! Time flies.

I would want to know Dame's vote. Not that he would say publicly, but his chemistry with Butler seems like it would be a gigantic factor on whether Butler resigns......seeing that he really has not had good chemistry in his last two stops.

To me market size is not the issue with Jimmy but Dame, Nurk, Collins, Baldwin. Harkless, and Aminu might. They seem to be pretty hard working guys, so he might like it.
