The Spurs should be rebuilding, this was their chance. This trade will get them some extra wins in the short term, but it'll set them back years.

Do you think Pop really wants to rebuild at this point?
I think they just got a lot better and the addition of Poettel (sp?) will help them in the post.
Rosen cam slash & score like Ginob.

He going from a decent cost of living place to the highest in North America. Also, GST tax on just about everything up there. I wonder how the exchange effects his contact?

At the end of the day what's kept SA relevant all these years hasn't been their offense, it's been their defense. Their defense just got A LOT worse.

Life in Toronto is so much better than life in San Antonio. Even with the cold. Worth the 2 mil

Toronto is one of my most favorite cities in the world.

I can only assume no one wanted to give up their top young assets. The Lakers and Philly pulled out of it yesterday.
But I agree with you, that was his chance to rebuild with young players vs just draft picks. It would have been a quicker turn around.

Probably want a last hurrah before Pops calls it quits. Pops isn’t the right guy for a rebuild. They can dump DeRozan and LMA for young assets next summer. In fact, I’d say the Blazers could be a trading partner next year with plenty of young talent and ending contracts.

The vibe I was getting from all of the reports was that they wanted a ton of young assets. But it doesn't really make sense for Boston and Philly to give up the moon for an injured player who might bolt since they're already in a good position. In the end they opted for an allstar instead.

Agreed. This suggests to me that most of the talk about offers was bullshit, because this package (DeRozan + Poetl + pick for Kawhi and Green) is deeply unimpressive.

i dunno. I think it a good deal for both. not sure why the hate on Demar. Its funny how a perennial all star in his prime (Derozan) is bashed but we sure do love our smaller, defensively challenged guards, one who isn't an all star and the other gets in via vote once (unless I am mistaken). He doesn't play defense like Kawhi but guess what nobody does. Literally nobody. They weren't getting Anthony Davis. The Spurs have DD for another three years, can keep him, trade him, its a valuable asset. Why do people just like to be so contrarian about everything...?

Without Pop he would have been Elliot Williams?

Agreed, I think this is a good trade for both teams. But it's interesting the Raptors are trading a guy who desperately wanted to remain on his team for a guy who wouldn't even show up to his team's playoff games. Both teams prolly like this move, both players hate it.

Raptors made a big mistake. Not a chance Kawhi resigns there.

    I respect the decision.
Keep the Raptors together and so what...they get bounced anyway in playoffs. Sound familiar?
Go for the homerun and if it doesn't work they have literally all of their cap space to start over with.

Raptors can field this lineup next season:

    Lowry/Green/Kawhi/Ibaka/Valanciunas

with probably the best bench in the league. They can compete for the EC title.

Sorry, man, I'm thinking it's the other way around - bad trade for both teams. SA loses it's defensive identity. Toronto left hanging after a year. That's the concern anyway. It still could work out for both team, but that's not what I'm forecasting.
