<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>ORLANDO, Fla., April 28 (AP) -- Seven-time All-Star Grant Hill, whose career was slowed by a recurring ankle injury, is contemplating retirement.Hill scored 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting in Orlando's 97-93 season-ending loss to Detroit on Saturday, then said he planned to take a couple of months off to "see if some of the lingering pains go away'' before deciding whether to play again."We'll see how I feel in June and July,'' Hill said. "The desire, of course, is to always play. But you don't want to live on anti-inflammatories and so forth. We'll just see, at least in my case, how I feel.''Hill signed a seven-year, $93 million contract with the Magic in 2000, just a few months after having surgery to repair a broken left ankle. He was supposed to team with Tracy McGrady and give Orlando one of the best scoring tandems in the league. It never quite worked out as planned.Hill played just 200 regular-season games in seven years, meaning he earned $465,000 per game played with the Magic. In his first three years in Orlando, Hill played four, 14 and 29 games before having season-ending surgery. He sat out his entire fourth season (2003-04) following a fifth ankle surgery. He bounced back to play 67 games the following season, but spent the final seven games on the injured list because of a bruised shin.Although his ankle felt fine, he sat out most of last season following surgery to repair a sports hernia. So this year marked the first time Hill has played through the closing part of any season with the Magic."Right now, I feel pretty good and I'm excited to have played in my last game of the season,'' Hill said. "As dejected as I am and we are as a team, to be able to walk off the court is a good thing. But 82 games is a long season. We'll see. We'll see how I feel.''Hill, who will turn 35 in October, averaged 14.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 65 games this season. If he does return, he said he hopes it will be with Orlando."I'd like to,'' Hill said. "Hopefully, I'm in the plans here. But right now, it's just about whether or not I want to play. Once I decide that, then hopefully (general manager) Otis Smith and them will have a spot for me.''</div>http://www.nba.com/nba_news/Hill_retirement.html
I think he should. Hes hurting the developement of the Magic. They are trying to rebuild and hes not really helping that. Time to pass the torch.
Nah, he should stay. How is he hurting the development of young players???He's actually helping them, he's a great teacher and a leader, he just helps the people that are around him in many many ways and im sure if he was not to re-sign with the magic then I would be seeing every team go right at him.. not for what he can produce on the court so much .. but for what he brings to a team for just being there. He can still do quite a bit on the court at times but I wouldn't expect him to play a whole lot next season and there for giving many players on the magic a good amount of time to develop while playing other teams. Now it's up to him if he want's to come back, if he feels good .. then sure but if he dosen't and if he feels that it's the end of the road for him then he should retire and il be fine with that. good luck to him.
If Hill can't find a team that wants him to be one of the leaders of the team, he should stick around with the Magic. I just don't want him to retire on a down note like this. :no1:
Mabee he does help them by teaching. But even though, he only takes 10 thats a lot of shots that Howard and Nelson could be shooting. Which was Magic's problem this year.
I don't know what Magic you're watching, Analyst.Listen, I'm not saying the Magic shouldn't try to develop, but Hill is honestly one of the few bright spots from what I have seen. And who the hell says he has to stay with the Magic? I could see him returning with quite a few other teams. He's a very skilled player. His understanding for the game makes up for his age.
If I were Hill I would play one more year. I would get out of Orlando and go back to Detriot and help them win a title next year. I think Hill back where he began would be a excellent idea and well he'd be a really good back up for Tayshawn Prince. Then retire
Saying Grant Hill should retire so the young players can develop is horribly misled. All team need a veteran like Hill, a hardworker who's going to push them and play efficient basketball. The Warriors, Hawks, and Bulls tried building their teams around only young players for over half a decade, and only now are in the Playoffs. That strategy doesn't work - you need a guy like Hill. That being said, you can't blame Hill for whatever decision he makes. Hill was on the verge of become one of the all time greats, and was sidelined by an injury that generally would have ended a normal player's career. Props to him for his determination, and lasting so long.
I don't think Hill should retire, but then again, I don't think he should stay in Orlando either. Players like C Webber and A Mourning have shown what you can do if your a vetern player who once were superstars can do if they move on and change teams to one that has a shot and a veteren core.I do admire Hill's loyality, but I'd hate to see a once great and still pretty damn good player like Hill go out without a shot at the brass ring or a deep playoff run, lest he become the next Stockton or Ewing.I also don't think that his staying in Orlando would hurt the development of the younger players on the Magic, but I feel he should move on for greener pastures.

Which was Magic's problem this year.</div>Their problem was not Hill taking shots away from Howard or Nelson, and it was not Howard and Nelson not shooting enough. The Magic's main problems this year was Turnovers, free throw shooting, and having a consistent outside scoring threat. If Hill doesn't retire, and re-signs with Orlando, it will have to be for a much lower price. I personally would like to see him sign on for a much lower price for one or two more years, because of how valuable he was the season to the Magic, and how valuable he could be in the future. Hill's leadership on the floor would be great, for another season or two, and really further the developement of this team. He was the one that often times got the big buckets we needed, whether it was during key runs, or to halt key runs made by the other team. He also served as a ballhandler on thet team, often times getting the ball when play got to sloppy or the spacing on the floor was bad, pulling it out and getting everyone set up and calmed down. Hopefully Nelson learned from it, but another year of that on the court tutoring could be great for Nelson I think.
I want him to retire so Dwight can step in as the sole leader of that team. I think once Grant is gone from the Magic, you will see Dwight Howard step up alot. Grant is a great role model and leader of that team, but it is his time to retire...
I don't think he should retire. IMO he should become a free-agent and sign with a contender. I agree that he should leave the Magic as they need to develop Dwight and their younger core of players a bit more as well.

I really want him to stay I could see him fitting in with the Spurs and Pistons. Hes a great veteran and still has some in the tank. I would like to see him be 7th or 8th man off the bench

I have a better chance of winning the big lottery then that happening. Sure they can get to the finals, because the east is weak. But there about 5 teams in the West better then any East team DET. Yes about 5 West teams would beat DET in the finals.Dallas/DET I take Dallas. Spurs/DET I take the Spurs. Suns/DET I take the Suns. Rocket/DET I take the Rockets. Denver/DET I take the Nuggets. Even the Jazz of the reguler season would maybe beat DET. People overrate them I think. But they are good.

You know I am right if you think about it. lol </div>No, actually it was pretty stupid.I think they could play a pretty great series against Dallas, SA, and Phoenix. As for Houston, I think they have the pretty clear upperhand on that one. Denver? That's a joke. Denver could, at best, run Detroit to 5 games. Utah is more valid than Denver, but I think that they are too young as well. At most, you have 3 teams that are better than Detroit, and I think Detroit can beat any of those 3 teams if they play their cards right. With Grant Hill, they would be marginally better.
