We're not in a different tier from LAL, OKC, UTA, DEN, SAS, or NOP though. All those squads are pretty evenly balanced respectively. I don't think there's anyone outside of a Jimmy Butler level player that could be added to this team to get us past HOU or GS. So we're looking at trying to get the 3-seed again, as a best-case scenario.
I would've at least used it to take on a bad contract with 2 years left to add a future asset such as a prospect or a pick. Line it up with the others expiring in 2020, and once that summer comes, the net result would be asset gain...
Sure, if all else fails that would be awesome. Was that option available? Wouldn't that get us a year or two closer to the apron (I'm fuzzy on the specifics of how this work)? Is it possible that he hasn't done that yet because he's hoping something else comes through and didn't want to waste part of the TPE that might be needed? Maybe he's been trying to get Love? Maybe he's still trying to get Butler? Should he have given up on the chance to get Love (or a player like that) a week ago and wasted the TPE on a prospect and expiring contract? I don't think that would have made sense... There are a lot of reasons not to have made that move yet. Even if waiting could cost you a chance at a prospect or pick. The potential payoff is worth that risk.
I think we're looking for a Jimmy Butler level player... I mean really, that's what we need. Otherwise just keep your current vets happy and do the best you can to find cheap young players. We've added shooting to help space the floor for Lillard and CJ. It's not sexy, but it's a step in the right direction. But I think if we could have added a player that we were confident would have us finishing closer to Houston than the rest of the group you listed we'd have made the move.
We added one shooter that'll play. And he replaced a decent shooter as well. Curry is the only shooting we added. We get worse on the boards by losing Ed, and we likely got worse defensively because of that too. We don't have as much depth either. I wouldn't say we got worse, but we didn't improve. We simply added more shooting at the expense of other things. I don't think that fixes all our problems.
Did anyone REALLY think it was gonna be used? It’s not even worth hating on the dude anymore, if someone can’t see through his fake bullshit facade by now than more power to you.
Hating Olshey for the summer of 2016 I understand. But since that is done and they can’t unscramble the eggs now, what really could be done this summer that makes a legit difference if other teams didn’t want our shit platter of players? You could say CJ should be traded I guess, but I don’t think PA wants to do that.
Neil finally admitted this teams difficiencies were exposed in the playoff sweep... he said this team was done with asset accumulation phase and need to add playoff tested veterans to compete... he didn’t do it... he said Paul Allen was aggressive willing to spend to improve... instead they cut salary... this guy is a used car salesman con artist pos... he will say whatever is needed to buy himself time and move the goal post... he is constantly lying and condescending to fans... that’s plenty reason to hate him
Yeah, I am truly shocked that no other team wanted to give us a useful player for free. Selfish bastards!!! BNM
As stated it could have been used to aquire an asset like a pick, trust me no one was expecting Neil to get a useful player with it.
I don’t think anyone thought it would be used until Neil started talking about what a great asset it was and how aggressive they were gonna be... and then Neil does nothing
Really, you must have a lot of people on ignore, because this thread is full of unrealistic proposals and expectations. First round picks aren't being passed around like they used to be, and 2nd round picks can be acquired on draft day (Gary Trent, Jake Layman, Allen Crabbe, etc.) without getting us hard capped at the apron. BNM
I absolutely understand why it’s not being used. To be fair maybe it shouldn’t be used if the right player isn’t available. It plays into my overall feelings of NO. He talks up players, assets, the situations, and To me the reality isn’t nearly what he tries to sell. This TPE was an asset they were going to be aggressive with to get better, that’s what he kept saying. Here we are and nothing (he still has about 25 hours). I guess the results have been ok the win totals keep going up, the feeling is eventually there will be playoff success. I just always feel like NO is the bad kind of used sales man in terms of how he talks to fans and local media, and it frustrates me.
