"Slightly above average"? @BonesJones Bro, you've gotta make a video breakdown of how much shading and switching and shunting and so forth that Chief provides in any given game. Chief is defensive glue. Rarely will I say "what [said player] provides doesn't necessarily show up in the box score," but in Chief's case, it's true.

Crazy Question: What other players in the league can guard SF/PF while not getting "totally wrecked" when they have to switch onto a PG/SG who makes less than $10 mil/year?

Doesn't matter if he's better, because the key is something you mention: WHEN he is engaged.

He's engaged like 15-20 games every season, so it's all moot.

Or...perhaps his benching last season was a turning point for him. He seemed to be pretty fully engaged from February on.

Good one, let's make it a thing:

Example 1: Mbah-a-Moute (much worse than Aminu on Offense).
    Example 2: ?

This is fascinating. Sort that by PPP, and you see that Dame (and Meyers) are our most efficient post players. And it's not even close after that. Jusuf is incredibly bad at this, as are Collins/Swanigan. We need a big man coach who can teach footwork and basic fundamentals in the worst way possible.

He should also make one showing how often he's out of place, late, or lost while Danilo "Just Back From Injury" Gallinari repeatedly goes around him for uncontested layups.

In the past this is true. What we don't know is if this moment last March was a turning point or not.

    https://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/...s_case_of_moe_harkless_how_an_apology_tu.html

He played well after that. If it was a true turning point then he could easily be our best starting SF. But, if he goes back to his old ways, not so much.

Harkless shot 51% from 3 after the all star break. He was engaged in the second half of the season. And your post was unnecessary because I specifically said:

    "but when he's completely engaged"

Well, I wasn't really planning on trying to argue against Aminu, but...Jared Dudley, Kyle Anderson, either Morris twin, OG Anunoby...? I'm sure there are plenty others.

First time here. Seems pretty likely that (at age 21) he blamed the organization for his benching in Orlando, but based on his apology (which @Reep linked), he appears to have blamed himself for last season.

What does it tell you when Neil openly admits to trying to improve the SF position this summer (even if he failed miserably)? Don't think the team has much faith in his ability to maintain that level of engagement.

It's a damn shame because an engaged Moe is exactly what this squad needs from that position.

All true. And since we know with 99% certainty that no SF upgrades are coming anytime soon, I'm going to believe the best about Moe, because that's the best option we've got.

However, if a Jimmy Butler deal were on the table, and Harkless' inclusion were a linchpin, I'd show up at his door and help him pack.

Unfortunately, I too don't see any viable replacements that can be better. Let's just hope he doesn't get complacent in working this summer as a result. He certainly did that when his development stagnated after getting paid.

Hopefully the Trent pick, the Stauskas addition, and Layman's summer league performance all provide sufficient motivation for Moe to put in the work necessary to avoid any speculation on the security of his role.

Anyone like the idea of trying to get Kelly Oubre Jr from the Wizards? His stats don't indicate that he's starter material yet, but he certainly has shown more than Layman so far. In addition to Otto Porter, Jr., the Wizards signed both Jeff Green and Troy Brown Jr this summer, so it looks like they have plenty of options at SF. Oubre's $3.2M salary would fit the Vonleh TPE, if the deep LT Wizards are interested in dumping him to save some money.
