I don't hate Hockey, I just lost all interest after the lockout. Great sport though.

It has just never interested me. I will admit it has got better since the lockout, with no ties and random fighting, but once again, I have never had any interest in it.

I don't get why you should like a sport..I do like hockey but the NHL really ruined itself with the lockout...most of the players are no names from Europe and CanadaI really enjoy the playoffs but it doesn't help that my hometown team is complete trash..and has been for a while nowIt just isn't a sport like basketball where I will sit down and watch every second of every game

I've looked around different sites and I'm starting to get the feeling people don't like hockey because they don't know about it. I bet some people haven't watched any hockey and just say it sucks and is boring because some other people do.I mean, it has the bone crushing hits like football, it's a sport where you can punch a guy and not get suspended, and I feel you have to be the toughest to play hockey than any other sport, including football.

In rugby you have to be 10x's tougher, that is by far the toughest sport.3) That is a tough comparison, I think football players are at least as tough as hockey players.

Boring to me, sure some guys get hit around and get the hell beat out of each other but NHL just isn't a sport I'd want to learn about or get into. Nothing against it, just not the kinda sport I like.

It isn'y football without the pads, the tackles are completely different.

It isn't entertaining to me. As said before, most of the players are foreign. It might as well be a league in Scandinavia or something. No point in having it here. As for people not knowing about it, hell yeah they don't know about it. And why should they care? Most people are not going out of their way to watch the NHL on some obscure PPV channel. When it comes to the sport itself, I can appreciate the skills required. I can appreciate the hitting aspect as well. But I'm not going to tune in just because they hit each other and get into fights. I mean really, fighting is still glorified in this sport. It's kinda pathetic. It's just like how NASCAR glorifies how dangerous their own races are to get fans. I'm sorry, but I don't tune into a event to watch people die or get injured (it's a cool bonus if they do, though).

I love hockey, I got to the University of Maine which is a mini-mecca of college hockey. College hockey is probably one of the most underrated sports. But as far as the NHL goes, I hate it, especially living in Boston. When I was younger and played hockey, I was a HUGE Bruins fan, I didn't even watch the Celtics. Watching Ray Bourque, one of the classiest athletes of our generation, was unbelievable. I look at the Bruins now and I just shake my head. The trade away an MVP in Joe Thorton, solid role players like Brade Boyes and Sergei Samsonov. They have a bunch of 2nd rate players and a decent goalie. The management finally changed hands after decades of ignorance. The Celtics have been a disappointment but the Bruins have been an absolute disaster. The tickets are insanely expensive also. As far as the NHL Goes, the expansions they made were idiotic and the lockout just killed an already deteorioating league. Also, I don't know if it's just me, but all the new uniforms in the NHL suck. The mid 90's uniforms for teams like Buffalo, Calgary, Vancouver, Anaheim, were awesome. I remember seeing an interview on ESPN with Barry Melrose, the pretty much official NHL spokesmen, and he was asked what can the NHL do to get back it's popularity. This was right after it was announced that the NHL All-Star game TV ratings dropped 75% from before the lockout. Melrose went on this rant about how the NHL needs a nationally televised network to cover them and ESPN would be the best network to do that. I was sitting there just laughing hysterically, ESPN just canceled their contract with the NHL because the ratings were horrible and the lockout was about to happen. They want absolutely nothing to do with the NHL. After watching that interview, with such a hockey knowledgeable guy like Melrose, it made me realize how pathetic the NHL's situation is right now.

Rugby and American football are too different in the way they are played to be compared in terms of toughness. The England Rygby captain (former one anyway) Martin Johnson used to play American Football a bit and he has always said they are both just as tough. You just have to look at the injuries that you get in American football to see how tough it is.I'm not sure if you meant me in your post, as I don't think American Football is a sissy sport. The majority or Europeans don't really follow the game so shouldn't be taken seriously.

Soccer is about fast and fancy footwork. Hockey has no finesse. Hockey is just guys slamming each other. And sports where you have to guide a puck along with a stick are stupid.

Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lang, etc. are pure finesse. That's the worst logic ever.Sports where you have to bounce a ball up and down to move are stupid.Sports where you have to throw a ball to another person are stupid.Sports where you hit a ball with a bat are stupid.

The guy was about as tough as an 8th grade tennis player and could skate circles around anyone, bring the puck up the ice coast to coast without a finger being laid on him and then put the puck in the net before the goalie even knew what was going on. You have clearly never played hockey before. It is an extremely physical sport but finesse definately plays a factor.
