'We Have Run Out of Patience': Gowdy Warns of Possible Subpoenas in Trump Dossier Investigation

House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) warned of possible subpoenas if the Justice Department ignores congressional committees' requests to question former FBI official Bruce Ohr and others about the infamous anti-Trump dossier.

Gowdy referenced reports from Fox News and The Hill, which recall how Ohr -- who was not involved in the use of ex-British spy Christopher Steele as an FBI source -- continued to communicate with Steele after the FBI cut ties with him.

    According to FoxNews.com:

The emails, first reported by The Hill, reveal Steele even continued to send information to Ohr after the election.

The FBI “suspended and then terminated” Steele as a source in early November 2016 for what the bureau defined as “the most serious of violations” – an “unauthorized disclosure to the media of his relationship with the FBI,” according to a House Republican memo earlier this year. The FBI reportedly told Steele at the time he could no longer “operate to obtain any intelligence whatsoever on behalf of the FBI.”

Yet the emails show Ohr, a former associate deputy attorney general, and Steele communicated extensively from 2002 all the way into 2017.

One text message from Steele to Ohr on Jan. 31, 2017 reportedly said: “B, doubtless a sad and crazy day for you re-SY.” The text is an apparent reference to President Trump’s firing of Acting Attorney General Sally Yates.

The text continued: “Just want to check you are OK, still in the situ and able to help locally as discussed, along with your Bureau colleagues.”

Gowdy said Ohr's text messages are not new to him, and said it was outrageous that a guy like Ohr -- who was supposed be focused on narcotics investigations -- got involved with the compiler of the Trump-Russia dossier while his wife Nellie Ohr was working for the opposition research firm assisted by Steele, Fusion GPS.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) is reportedly preparing subpoenas for the Ohrs, Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson and other current and former FBI and DOJ officials, according to two congressional sources familiar with the matter.

"Chairman Goodlatte is a patient man, but we have run out of patience," Gowdy said.

"[The DOJ] either needs to set this for a date-certain, or there will be a subpoena issued."

GOP chairman readies Steele dossier subpoenas

The Republican chairman of the House Judiciary Committee is readying subpoenas for people connected to the controversial “Steele” dossier, sources tell The Hill.

Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) is preparing subpoenas for Justice Department (DOJ) official Bruce Ohr, his wife Nellie Ohr and Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson, according to two congressional sources familiar with the matter.

The committee will also go after other current and former FBI and DOJ officials including Jim Baker, Sally Moyer, Jonathan Moffa and George Toscas, the sources said.

    http://thehill.com/homenews/house/401193-gop-chairman-set-to-issue-steele-dossier-subpoenas
Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores told The Hill that Goodlatte has been in touch with the DOJ about seeking testimonies from these officials.

A Republican House Judiciary Committee aide confirmed to The Hill they plan to seek such interviews.

"We plan to interview the people [mentioned] in the coming weeks and we will issue subpoenas to compel their attendance if necessary," the aide said.

Goodlatte could issue the orders as early as this week as part of his panel’s joint investigation with the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which is examining FBI and DOJ decisionmaking during the 2016 presidential election.

Bruce Ohr has come under Republican scrutiny for his contacts with Simpson and former British spy Christopher Steele during the presidential campaign, a revelation that sparked demands from Trump allies for a special counsel investigation into the DOJ and the FBI last December.

Simpson hired Steele to help compile the controversial dossier that made a series of salacious allegations about President Trump’s ties to Russia.

Ohr’s wife Nellie worked for Fusion GPS during the 2016 election, which Republicans have seized on as a possible connection that links the opposition research firm and the Justice Department.

The matter became a major flashpoint among conservatives when it was revealed that Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign had funded some of the research included in the dossier.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), when asked about the matter, broadly replied that Congress needs to “be talking to Bruce Ohr and Nellie Ohr."

Jordan said it was "crazy" that federal officials would be having contacts with individuals working at an opposition research firm that was digging up dirt on the Republican presidential nominee.

The FBI used Steele as a source in their application to obtain a surveillance warrant on former Trump campaign aide Carter Page, according to the heavily redacted Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act application released by the DOJ last month.

Republicans have sought to discredit special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference by claiming that officials during the beginnings of the probe overly relied on Steele as a source, someone they say had a clear bias against Trump.

While the bureau noted in their application that Steele was likely “looking for information that could be used to discredit” Trump’s campaign, they still deemed him as a “reliable” source.

The FBI continued to view Steele as reliable even after they stopped using him as a source, terminating their relationship with Steele over his improper contacts with the press.

Some of these officials, however, have already been on the radar of GOP lawmakers.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, wrote a letter to the Justice Department in February asking the agency to “produce all documents and communications” sent from a series of officials related to the Clinton email probe. Toscas, Moffa, Baker and former FBI Director James Comey were all on Johnson's list, among others.

Moffa and Baker both played a role in drafting the memo Comey used to announce the bureau’s findings in the Clinton email investigation, according to documents released by the FBI last fall.

Republicans have also linked Baker to the decisionmaking related to the Steele dossier, as well as other FBI officials.

Toscas, a top DOJ official, was also involved in the FBI’s investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server while serving as secretary of State.

House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) earlier this week seemed to tease the possibility of Bruce Ohr becoming the next major focus of GOP scrutiny, telling Fox News host Sean Hannity that Ohr will become "more and more important."

“I think people should pay close attention to it,” Nunes told Hannity on Monday.

The reason they're so popular is because they are the only hard Right wing television news and commentary source.

The other side, the rational side, has many viewers distributed among several television news and commentary sources.

Fox News has lied and erred so many times that they are beginning to look and act like Trump, their savior.

Sorry, but sources used in an ongoing investigation are never released unless ordered by a judge and that's not going to happen.

If Gowdy is so sure that he is right, he should get a judge to order the witness to appear.

Republican Congressional investigations are nothing more than Trump white wash.

Use the law, don't try to bend it.

    Fail.

    https://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/may...e-news-network-for-197-straight-months/365840

CNC World is a propaganda channel owned by China, not even close to a news network. I follow their parent outlet China Xinhua News Network Corporation daily, along with their Russian propaganda counterpart RT.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China_Xinhua_News_Network_Corporation

Even so, I can't find anything referring to amount of viewers for it. Got a link?

Voice of America is an American government propaganda radio channel, same type of ridiculous disinformation.

You can toss BBC in that pile also.

There is no reliable way to measure # radio listeners.

But thanks for showing how pervasive Fake News is around the globe.

    1. Gowdy is leading the only current investigation into the fake Steele dossier.

    2. A Congressional Subpoena needs to be ignored before Congress demands a judge enforce it.

    3. The investigation is a bi-partisan investigation.

    Three strikes and you're out!

FOX News is not hard-right, they are pretty much center/moderate.

There are many more conservative channels including TheBlaze, One America, Newsmax, INSP, Sinclair Broadcasting...

    Another deep state domino falls.

FBI fires Peter Strzok, months after anti-Trump texts revealed
    [IMG]
By Judson Berger, Brooke Singman | Fox News

FBI fires Peter Strzok over anti-Trump text messages
Strzok's attorney says the FBI's decision is a 'departure from typical bureau practice'; reaction from Rep. Darrell Issa, Republican member of the House Judiciary Committee.

FBI official Peter Strzok, who played a lead role in both the Russian meddling and Hillary Clinton email probes but became a political lightning rod after the revelation of anti-Trump text messages, has been fired.

Strzok attorney Aitan Goelman said in a statement Monday that his client, a 21-year FBI veteran, was fired Friday afternoon, claiming this was a departure from standard practice and politically motivated. Goelman said bureau Deputy Director David Bowdich “overruled” the FBI's Office of Professional Responsibility to remove him.

“This decision should be deeply troubling to all Americans,” the attorney said.

Strzok appeared to launch a new Twitter account to fire back, saying he's "deeply saddened" by the decision and linking to a GoFundMe page.

President Trump and his allies for months, though, have hammered the former FBI agent and cast him as the poster child for anti-Trump bias within the bureau and Justice Department.

Reacting to the firing, the president tweeted, "finally," while asking whether the Russia case will now be dropped:

"Agent Peter Strzok was just fired from the FBI - finally. The list of bad players in the FBI & DOJ gets longer & longer. Based on the fact that Strzok was in charge of the Witch Hunt, will it be dropped? It is a total Hoax. No Collusion, No Obstruction - I just fight back!"

The president over the weekend had tweeted that Strzok and others have “badly damaged” the FBI’s reputation, referring to them as “clowns and losers!”

Strzok was removed from the special counsel probe last year after the discovery that he exchanged anti-Trump and other politically charged messages with colleague and lover Lisa Page.

In June, he was then escorted from his FBI office and lost his security clearance amid the release of a scathing DOJ inspector general report that largely dealt with the DOJ and FBI’s handling of the investigation into Clinton’s private email server but uncovered messages that “appeared to mix political opinion with discussions” about that probe -- namely, between Strzok and Page.

The IG ultimately found no evidence that the bias among the several FBI agents impacted prosecutorial decisions in the Clinton email probe. But Republicans have repeatedly raised concerns that anti-Trump bias played a role in the start of the investigation into Russian meddling and potential collusion with Trump associates in 2016.

One Strzok text in particular vowed to "stop" Trump from becoming president.

In an explosive congressional hearing last month, Strzok sought to clear his name and address the many controversial messages. He claimed his personal opinions did not affect his work. But Republicans tore into the FBI official, with House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy saying he exhibited "textbook bias."

Trump's allies cheered the former agent's termination on Monday.

"Peter Strzok was fired from the FBI because of what his own written words plainly showed: he was willing to use his official FBI position to try and stop President Trump from getting elected. He tarnished the FBI's sterling reputation and severely damaged public trust in an institution where trust is paramount. His conduct should deeply concern every American," House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows, R-N.C., said in a statement to Fox News.

Strzok’s attorney, meanwhile, blasted the bureau on Monday, saying the deputy director “reversed the decision of the career FBI official responsible for employee discipline who concluded, through an independent review process, that a 60-day suspension and demotion from supervisory duties was the appropriate punishment.”

He added, “A lengthy investigation and multiple rounds of Congressional testimony failed to produce a shred of evidence that Special Agent Strzok’s personal views ever affected his work.”

The Justice Department and FBI declined to comment for this report.

Text messages first emerged last year, showing Strzok and Page discussing 2016 campaign politics and repeatedly blasting Trump. In one message, Strzok called Trump an "idiot."

Messages continued to trickle out, including some reflecting apparent concern about being too tough on Clinton during the investigation into her private email system use.

The inspector general report, meanwhile, referred a total of five FBI employees for investigation in connection with politically charged texts, suggesting more disciplinary action could be considered for additional employees. Lisa Page left the bureau earlier this year.

I had a suit just like Strzok's except it was dark blue. I've now outgrown it. Several years ago I tried to get another such suit tailor made but they don't carry that design in that material anymore. Had to get a black one that is similar but just not the same.

Maybe if I went to Savile Row. Can't do that 'cause have to go to the hospital about four times a week.

The Mueller probe of Trump is dead. I think it's certain that we'll see no more indictments.

At long last, this means we can finally indict Hillary, any day now.

Look at the track record, it is there for tiny minds to read. Comey's gone, McCabe gone, Page and Strzok exposed as dem operatives, fired.

Mueller probably has no stomach for being the pivot point in the next elections, with nothing in his bag. It looks like the only friggin
unethical people are in the FBI and DOJ.

Before we get the Hillary, it's going to be neat watch Rosenstein simmer in hot lights with his bag empty. I imagine it will take a long time to fire his ass. He will get the pleasure of sizzling for quite awhile I expect.

Then we get to see what these Seditious S2 anti Americans do. Eating something ugly is only fitting. Will it be like men? Doubtful!
