I saw her perform in 1971 with Ray Charles...two grand pianos and those two voices....She's on most of my compilation discs I make for the car....she's the true queen of soul...a voice for the ages. Been looking for an old recording of the soundtrack for the movie Sparkle....used to have it on vinyl....Curtis Mayfield did the music Aretha sang all the songs....got some great, great songs on it. Poor gal was still smoking cigarettes and eating junk food in an interview I saw a few years back....not the picture of health...I wish her well and hope she recovers.
To me Al Green and Aretha were the greatest soul singers of all time...RIP Aretha....end of suffering...what a legacy you left the world of music and civil rights!
This has me FUCKED up right now... She did so much for us.. I've been playing Aretha all day.. Rest in love Queen.
I grew up listening to oldies stations because of my parents, so I heard A LOT of Aretha. Her part in Blues Brothers was one of my favorite scenes in any movie ever. That was such a great film though. Ray Charles, Aretha, James Brown..... Cab Calliway. So many great performers in that movie, and she still stood out.
She had such a balance and tone in her voice!!!! Another class act Super star fades to God! It is hard to comepare with another female singer with such a range. Perhaps Billy Holiday? Diana Washington? I Wish she had a chance to sing with Larry Braggs (12 years as singer) and Tower of Power …………….
I wore this album out long ago...need to get another copy....one of the greatest soul albums ever! Enjoy!
