Cool. I told you we get around.
Oh, and quit telling me that I should quit wearing clothing made out of animal skins. They're warm, durable and fashionable.
Now please show me that magic trick with the flint and iron where you make fire.

I apologize to anyone foolish enough to think there was anything about race in my post. My response is below. After reading it a few of you should examine your own posts and think about how insulting they are.

    My PM from buddy SPD.

Your racist post in the hominin thread

    Better bury this.

You really pushed things with that post. We can't have that here. You're a great guy and I enjoyed meeting you but if you post something like that again you will no longer be welcome here.

    My reply to this nonsense.

I pushed nothing. You read what you wanted to read, even though it's not there in print.

Nothing at all racist in that post, it referred to scientific evidence in the OP of a possible clue to the extinction of 2 species of peoples. There was no reference to race, as scientists don't use meaningless terms on purpose.

Species and race are not similar in any way. Scientifically, race does not even exist. It is a made up thing for bigots to use against those they fear.

This is a very elementary and widely known fact.

There were several tasteless and misogynistic posts in the thread, but I insulted nobody.

Once again, I am owed an apology.

    Read my post.

Nothing about race, as this thread has nothing to do with race.

It is about species of humanoids.

Judging by the junior-high misogynistic "jokes" you are all enjoying I guess the subject is a bit over your heads.

My post was an acknowledgement of scientific theories on the extinction of these species.

I literally cannot understand how anyone confuses species (scientific labels of distinct and separate animals) with race (a fictional label with no scientific equal).

Libraries, schools, so many opportunities to learn basic biology.

different species and different peoples are not the same ....read your own post and if you apologize for this horrible post of yours about "different people" sexually intermingling and after getting called out on it, then mask it as science...then ask for an apology...well...you obviously need to learn to post without sounding like a slave trader from the ivory coast.....read your own post and see how it really comes off....and if you want to apologize..try to mean it. To anyone fluent in English your post was as ignorant as one could conceivably make. Your post sounds like something Hitler would say or a KKK bumper sticker..not a modern day scientist..I found it to be extremely offensive....even your apology was not sincere since you ended it with a demand for an apology for yourself...don't know what else to say other than you should take a deep look in the mirror

You are owed an apology for making what could easily be mistaken for a race comment? If you would have seen the obvious inference you would have phrased your remark differently and more clearly. I'm surprised that you want an apology for being very unclear at best.

I have no problem with @MARIS61 and I could tell what he was talking about. However, it was a trollish post. I believe he knew the reaction it would generate.

I'll say it wasn't sex that killed them off....no more than it killed off Ishi's tribe in N California...or the hobbit people of Indonesia or many many aboriginal tribes....more than likely it was predators, genocide, violence, drought natural disaster or disease. The Dodo bird of New Zealand was killed off by hunters who didn't sexually intermingle with them as far as I know...what gets buried here are the facts. If Sly wants to mingle with a willing feline, pretty sure there will still be felines running around. Sex is killing off the rhino but not rhino sex...old men in China with young wives would be the main reason.

As to the title of this thread, how do we know that this was a “love child” and not a case of prehistoric #metoo?

...lol...I started to bring up something like that...I mean back then I doubt sex was consensual. The males probably just took that stuff regardless of whether the female was "in the mood" or not.

    Denisovan
The Denisovans or Denisova hominins (/dɪˈniːsəvə/ di-NEE-sə-və) are an extinct species or subspecies of archaic humans in the genus Homo. Pending its status as either species or subspecies it currently carries the temporary names Homo sapiens denisova,[1] Homo sp. Altai,[2] and Homo sapiens subsp. Denisova.[3][4] In March 2010, scientists announced the discovery of a finger bone fragment of a juvenile female who lived about 41,000 years ago, found in the Denisova Cave in the Altai Mountains in Siberia, a cave that has also been inhabited by Neanderthals and modern humans.[5][6][7] The mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) of the finger bone showed it to be genetically distinct from Neanderthals and modern humans.[8] The nuclear genome from this specimen suggested that Denisovans shared a common origin with Neanderthals, that they ranged from Siberia to Southeast Asia, and that they lived among and interbred with the ancestors of some modern humans,[9] with about 3% to 5% of the DNA of Melanesians and Aboriginal Australians and around 6% in Papuans deriving from Denisovans.[10][11][12]

A 2013 comparison with the genome of another Neanderthal from the Denisova cave revealed local interbreeding with local Neanderthal DNA representing 17% of the Denisovan genome, and evidence of interbreeding with an as yet unidentified ancient human lineage.[13] Analysis of DNA from two teeth found in layers different from the finger bone revealed an unexpected degree of mtDNA divergence among Denisovans.[13] Two teeth belonging to different members of the Denisova cave population have been reported. In November 2015, a tooth fossil containing DNA was reported to have been found and studied.[14][15]

Denisovans and Neanderthals split from Homo sapiens around 744,000 years ago and diverged from each other 300 generations after that.[16]

The Denisovans and Neanderthals are part of the modern makeup of human dna….according to the article I posted though it says they knew this in 2010 and the article on Sly's link says 2012...apparently we've known that Homosapiens, Neanderthals and Denisovans all used the same cave and interbred at some point...so extinct as a sub species yet assimilated into the human gene pool...Denisovans dna is found from Siberia to Australia..2013 they find evidence of interbreeding with a still yet unknown human subspecies....fascinating stuff. Now for the sci fi question of the thread...how do we know some of these subspecies just didn't leave the planet rather than died out? Alien interventions!!!! This sentence was for CC...the resident sci fi nerd..sort of an alien Noah's ark....maybe some dinosaurs left as well...Neanderthals look a whole lot like Klingons!
