Hell I went Boar hunting with a spear near Baguio once. Not so sure that was a smart thing to do either. When we found the Boar, and that sucker wanted a hunk of my ass on one of those tusks, I was dam sure of it.

I've got a buddy who gets an elk every single year with a bow and arrow.

...don't know who you are and really don't care, but don't presume to tell what I can and cannot say.

Now you will get no disagreement from me on this point. You may not even get the rifle up in time if it's in your hands.

Must have missed the memo. Just giving a Yankees fan the hard time that they deserve. No harm intended.

...I've tried bow and cross bow hunting...I realize it's a tougher hunt but it's just not for me...mainly for the same reason I mentioned earlier...when I pull the trigger I want to be 95% sure it's a kill shot...hell, half my shots are head shots...they don't go far.

Ha!...I'm in Georgia, so I get plenty of abuse from Braves fans down here.
...fwiw, I don't know why the Yanx should deserve a hard time as opposed to any other team...unless it's based either on history or jealousy. :bgrin:

I sort of find it my favorite of my lot. .223, .243, .270, .308, 06, .338, 44mag, and the little .357. Loaded with Win296 and the 125gr jacket bullet, it will do a tad over 2300 fps. Of course that is the 18" barrel of the Browning lever action replica of the Model 92 Win.
The S & W 6" barrel is not near that fast, but it will use the same rounds to adequate effect. I find this to be my favorite to have on board, a handy pair.

I often just use the .38 specials in these.

I didn't mean it like that. I was just saying you are using your personal anecdotes as proof of the illegitimacy of pistol hunting when in fact it is indeed a common activity many people enjoy. People don't care if it's not popular with you and your friends, they do it anyway.

...to be honest, I really don't know for sure but like I said earlier I have some monsters down here...500-600 pounds or so...they say they can get over a 1000 pounds...they're pretty smart and usually stay clear of humans but like I said, I saw one about 2 years ago that scared the hell out of me...and I was on a tractor planting food plots and should have felt safe.

If you're not sure, why raise the blood pressure in here by making a statement about it?

Here in Texas, our boars and wild hogs are, like many things here, big

...only conventional hand gun I have is an old 38 with a 4" barrel for "emergency"...I do also have a single shot .308 "hand cannon" with a 10" barrel and laser dot scope...for "critters". (raccoons, possum, armadillos, coyotes, etc.)...also have an ole Remington Nylon 66 22 caliber....great for plunking.
...my next purchase will be a used Marlin lever action 30-30 (side eject)

...whoah..."raise blood pressure"?...if this convo actually causes your BP to go up maybe you should consider some other form of entertainment...sounds like they have some big mouths in Tejas too.
