According to bleacher report... The New York Yankees have acquired outfielder Andrew McCutchen from the San Francisco Giants, according to NBC Sports Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic. Joel Sherman of the New York Post added infielderAbiatal Avelino, listed as the Yankees' No. 23 overall prospect by MLB.com, is expected to be a part of the return package for the Giants. McCutchen is making $14.75 million this season and is set to become an unrestricted free agent this winter. Even if they take on the remaining $2.5 million on his contract, the Yankees would remain under the luxury tax threshold, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. After being drafted 11th overall in 2005, McCutchen spent the first 13 years of his professional career with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. However, as the team looked to build for the future this winter, it traded him to the San Francisco Giants. McCutchen is having arguably the worst season of his career, hitting .255/.357/.415 with 15 home runs, 28 doubles, two triples and 55 RBI in 130 games. He has struggled to adjust to the spacious AT&T Park, owning a .249 average with just five home runs in 64 home games this year. A change of scenery could provide a boost to his numbers, as he has a .261 average and 10 home runs away from home this season. McCutchen may not be the All-Star-caliber player he was in his prime. However, the 31-year-old can still swing the bat a bit and provide some pop as well. New York has a firm hold on a playoff position at 84-50. While the Yankees sit eight games back of the Boston Red Soxin the American League East, they are 9.5 games up in the wild-card race. Even though they appear to be headed to the postseason, they were in need of outfield help. Aaron Judge (wrist), Clint Frazier (concussion) and Jacoby Ellsbury (hip) are all on the disabled list, while Giancarlo Stanton has been playing through a hamstring injury. As a result, veteran infielder Neil Walker has been seeing time in right field for the first time in his career. McCutchen has been moved from center to right as he has aged and ranks 10th among all right fielders with a defensive rating of minus-6.5, according to FanGraphs. Given he has averaged 155 games over the past eight seasons, though, he is someone the Yankees can depend on to be in the lineup on a daily basis as others on the roster deal with injuries. COMMENTS Mistakes Costs Yankees, Who Blow Lead
Gotta hand it to Cashman, should the Yankees fail this year he's (Cashman) has a ton of scapegoats on board to set his blame line starting of course with Boner. Then he can go to injuries to Sanchez and Judge with lesser to add. I feel we have been bull shitted about Judge since he went down. Now "Cutch" is to arrive, I always liked that guy premier player in Pittsburgh. I wish the man well in New York and he can be used in a DH Outfield role. An addition of this
I like Cutch. He has a career obp 0.377. This season he has an obp 0.357 which would make him #2 on the Yanks (behind #1 Hicks and ahead of #3 Stanton, Judge is #1 but he is out due to injury).
Long time Yankee fans remember when the Yankees lost Deki and Sheffield during the '06 season. On coming back late in the season Torre played them over the fill ins who held the line which I thought was a mistake , Yankees lost 3 games to 1. This year we are being bull shitted about Sanchez and Judge coming back and the how long will it be before they get back into game shape. Judge is sorely missed, Sanchez in '18 never really arrived. The only redeeming immediate impact I can see of Sanchez coming back is that Higgy goes back to wherever. So pissed off about last nights loss now I need to see what the competitors did.
It's a move that needed to be made. Not only do we not need Robinson out there constantly but let's face it. Gardner is batting. 237.
Per the article it was a deal the Yankees should have done sooner. Might be a good rise for McCutchens spirit as well as to the players who will benefit from his presence.
Gardner is sucking in the 2nd half as he does every year. He and cc need to find new teams next year. Hopefully red thunder is back next week as he is currently playing rehab games. Sanchez back tmo asis mccutchan so lineup gets immediate boost. Didi back next week and unfortunately I am starting to feel judge may be done for the season. And for christs sake boone we tried betances as a closer a few years ago and he sucks in that role. Keep him in his unhittable 8th inning role and use britton with a sprinkling of robertson as the closer until betances gets back.
...yes, Cutch is not only an insurance policy for Judge but also because Gardner is toast. ...he's never been that good anyway. .261 .345 .391 .736 slash line is not very good for a corner OFer...plus he has a career OPS+ of 99.
