Well, I'm pretty sure the Mavs fans on here expected a longer run, but officially were open to discussion about the offseason. What do you guys think we should do? Blow it up, stay pat, etc.Seems to be split on a couple of boards. Fans are yelling for a Dirk trade. A laughable one is for Garnett. Talk about treading water with that trade. KG has the stigma of not coming through when needed. I think we should stay pat with our core and add some pieces. Needs are a swingman and low post presence. Interesting names that come to mind are Wells, Mo Pete, PJ Brown. Nothing drastic, I truly feel there's no need to kneejerk from this series and scrap our team.
rockets fan here, not to rub it in though.im just curious why dallas basically ALLOWED GS the 8 seed instead of tryinto win that game and play the clippers. we all knew don nelson knows the mavs better than avery does, and he shut dirk down. it didnt look like dirk cared in game 6, especially in the second half.now im goona rub it intony romo........oopsdirk no-hit-ski..oopslook on marc cubans face is the single most beatiful thing I have ever seen.this is what you get for stackhouse calling jon barry white trash, and josh howard (your only GREAT player) saying we couldnt name a player on our benchkarma is great, and since dallas fans like to whine and talk down to houston fans, you got what you deserved. period.see you next year, have fun watching the warriors and rockets/jazz on TV.looper cowgirls!!!!!this isnt for all the mavs fans, as some are AWESOME. but for the most part, just azzholes

No reason to trade and go all fancy this offseason. We already have great team. Pointless to stack up on too many players.Lets just keep it simple. Trading Dirk shouldnt even be an option, I expect a bunch of trade Dirk topics though. I say resign Stack. Let Croshere go. I would like to see PJ Brown take Austins spot. Aggressive and great defense. Because it seems like Najera isnt an option this offseason any more. Not sure about Barea and Pops. I dont expect much from the draft with three 3rd round craps
I think this is a team that can win a ring as is. If a good trade comes a long take it, otherwise stand pat for one more year.
Me and Lazy were talking about this, I think the best scenario would be to resign Stack at the MLE or replace him with Bonzi Wells at the MLE(a risk after this season but I'd take a flyer on him with our previous interest in past seasons). Then go Desmond Mason with the LLE and try to land PJ Brown with the vet min.I think it's a realistic scenario. If I had to say who would not return, Barea/Pops/Croshere and possibly Stack are my guesses. I would like to see us shop Buckner but I don't him getting us much value or even being of value to another team.
You should keep dirk. If you're looking for a swingman, go for Magette. Vince Carter is way more expensive.

You live in Houston. You took Mario Williams. Over Reggie Bush. I think need to find players that can guard players like Baron Davis, Billups, and Wade. Those type of players really give the mavs fits. Also a post up player would be great but I don't know how realistic of another giving one up for cheap.

Those type of players really give the mavs fits.</div>Eh, I think Harris could defend all those players. The problem that we had this series is that people weren't active on help defense. Help defense basically made the series. Diop was the only Mav that had consistent help defense, and the Warriors' help defense killed Dirk.edit: I also meant to say that Harris got a ton of bullsh** fouls called on him.
A couple updates...So Stack is a lock for staying. Avery & Cuban want him back. Jerry wants back for the most part. He said even if he has a smaller role on the team(Expecting Mo Ager to recieve more playing time, developing etc). I would expect him cheap. Kevin Willis is still an option, he doesn't want his age to count him out. Continues to keep healthy and in shape. Also he was a great mentor for Diop with his time with Dallas. He told Diop to hit the weights this off season.Croshere is looking at the FA market. Likely to be gone. Buckner has declared a FA agent. He is exercising his player-option.Smush Parker really shouldn't be a option.I read from a 'unknown' Dallas official said Terry would be likely to be traded if he didn't have such a large contract(Whoa). Which bring me to Avery comments, that some what concern me. He seems frustrated. I just get vibes that no one on the team is guaranteed to be playing with the Mavs next season

I say stand mostly pat. Just work on Dirk's and everyone else's aggressiveness and get that killer mentality ground into them. Shake up the bench maybe but keep the starters.

While Dirk dissapears when his shot isn't falling, he's there consistently enough to offset those nights.

If I was Dallas management, I would keep the team we have, and just work on team defense. There defense is pretty solid, but they need to get there big men alot tougher in the paint. There just to soft, down low right now. If they did that, I'm pretty sure they will have another successful season.
Trying to keep the Mavs board somewhat alive, I'll update with an interview by Donnie Nelson that might give insight on what we look for in the offseason. He mentioned a playmaker specifically at pg or sf. Other boards have said he really zoned in on sf. Also, mentioned a possible low post presence, both to help keep pressure off Dirk. Who he said they will not force and let the offense come to him. Some free agents who fit the playmaker bill at sf are Luke Walton and Grant Hill. David Lord mentioned our perfect offseason would be Grant Hill and Chris Webber. I think we could land one of the two but also think both could be unlikely.Playmakers at pg in the free agency besides Steve Blake aren't appealing. So I see why we might look for a playmaker at another position, especially considering we have Terry and Harris already.I wouldn't mind Walton and/or Mason and landing Corliss Williamson with the vet.
They shouldn't blow the team up, just add and drop some players.I think they should do something with damp, just a thought. Drop Cro, and George and try to pick up a reasonable 2 guard.
