They released body cam footage of the shooting today. The officers were not charged by a grand jury.

From the video, it seems like he was trying to stop the fight, had the gun in his shorts pocket, the fight is still going and he gets bumped to the ground. The gun falls out and the cops see it. They yell at him not to get up and pick up the gun, he seems disoriented and they shoot him. I'm guessing he was probably drunk too and just wasn't aware of what was going on. Really sad situation. Especially if it wasn't his gun in the first place.

Very sad that these security guards will not be disciplined for this. His family is devastated by this decision.

I've watched the video over 15x.

There is never a time that I see him go for the gun.

If that's their story it's fuckin bullshit....

Is the victim in the gray shirt that the officer says "Sir, sir, back up" to? If so it looks like he is moving away from the police and not threatening them. Granted watching on my phone it's really hard to tell. I know shit can turn ugly really fast but it doesn't seem like they gave the guy much of a chance to "obey" any commands before opening fire.

Yes that's him. He is moving away from the officer. Not threatening him at all.

Let's say he didn't obey. Let's say he even attempted to flee.

There still wouldn't be any justification to fire.

    It's shameful.

No. He was moving away. They saw the gun and for them that justified the shooting even if he wasn't pointing it at them or picking it up. At no time was that guy in any conflict with these security guards. They panicked and opened fire. Completely unnecessary.

The video is really hard to actually see anything, but I think he’s the guy that the cop knocks over when he’s telling him to move. You can see the gun poking out of his pocket. He gets knocked down and I think the gun fell out at that point and the cops saw it. They yelled not to pick it up. He was definitely moving away from them and he looked disoriented.

With that said, I’m wondering if those guys even knew the cops were there. They certainly didn’t announced themselves clearly. I’m wondering if the poor guy even knew they were cops.

Campus cops are city cop wannabes, not as good, applying every year for the bigger job, treating the college job as training. 30 years ago here in Bellingham at Western Washington State U., the campus police wanted to carry guns. The campus Board of Trustees strongly opposed.

The police held a student vote. The police lost. Conservatives gathered their forces, while liberals petered out.

A month later they held a second vote. The police lost, but it was closer. Conservatives gathered their forces, while liberal rallies decreased.

A month later they held a third vote. The police barely won. Everyone was exhausted from months of controversy. Liberals should have held another election, but you know liberals. We hate to fight, the Christian ethic. That's why we lose.

It was a coup d'etat against the trustees. Ever since then, the campus police have swaggered with meaner faces.
