Laws very from state to state. Some states the video is not yours. Meaning if you are at fault for an accident or incident you can't erase it and have to provide it if asked for by law enforcement or the other party you were in an accident with. Find and read a popular bicyclists website for your state. Those fools are down on the laws They like to run stop signs and zip in and out of traffic but cry foul if you get near one of them with your car. They're the ones who don't want to provide footage of their helmet cams but use it to sue you. /EndRant
I always run one. I'd like to get a rear facing one as well. Our Camry has been hit several times now, and a couple of them could have easily been disputed. In one case my wife was getting off 26 and she was sitting on the off ramp at a light. The car in front of her put it into reverse and backed into her. They could have very easily said that she hit them and we didn't have a dash cam at that point, so how do you fight it? We also had someone back into our parked car while we watched it happen from the doors of Fred Meyer. There are a ton of morons out there, and having protection against them is extremely necessary.
I DO!! You will actually observe more moronic drivers when you have it. Many are cheaply built and the HD clarity is evident on playback.
I use to work in East Portland and live in Beaverton. I'd drive thru downtown to get to hwy 26. I'd see a lot of bycicle couriers most of whom would scare the shit out of me. I wanted to get out of my car and break a nose but they were gone just as fast as they zipped by about three inches away. Little turds. I had a near heart attack nearly every day.
