Don't believe the clumping bamboo story. It just takes over a little more slowly. Which is still faster than you'll want to deal with, assuming you don't have a terminal disease.

I quoted you a price for large trees, $$$. But prices may have gone up, some may be $$$$ now.

I'm sure he is, since he lost his shade trees.

Something like this is what we might end up doing. Just want to make sure even the non wandering bamboo would stay put in.

I don't know why you want to obscure your view of a hot neighbor!

Not sure on bamboo, but we end up with some plants in odd places from wind and birds reseeding our garden areas and viola, there's a plant so a pot may or may not contain it. I'd suggest a trip over to Portland Nursery on Stark or Division and talk to them.

Agree with Sly - you must plant bamboo in a metal planter or it will take over. My dad had to spend a bunch of $$ to get bamboo dug up because it was taking over, and growing like crazy in his neighbors yard (under his fence).

We are having 2 very large trees removed soon. It's gonna suck losing the privacy for awhile. We bought 12 arborvitaes at Costco to plant along the fence where the trees are. It'll be a few years before they grow tall enough to provide the same amount of privacy. Might plant a couple quacking aspen trees in the meantime to provide at least a little privacy.

That's what the nursery told my dad, but it ended up spreading. Bamboo is the devil.

I had a problem with a neighbor's ugly back yard that abutted ours. I planted some Concord grapes. During the summer they completely obliterated the view of our neighbors yard and provided some of the best Concord grapes I've ever had. They remained for about 30 years until one day after a dispute over the property line, the grapes were clearly inside my property and outside the disputed area, he kept complaining that I needed to cut my grape vines off his fence. One day while we were gone from our home he cut our grape bush down to the level of the dirt. SOB, my neighbor was a retired Army ranger. I had to physically retrain him from breaking a lot of that guy's bones.

Now, I've moved and I have no problems. All my new neighbors are great.

Actually, I like bamboo. I'd build me a pond near the bamboo with a pump and running water and a couple frogs, maybe some gold fish, and enjoy nature. Hang up a hummingbird feeder and a squirrel feeder and enjoy life with a glass of white wine, a beer or a glass of either lemonade or iced tea. Imagine how nice a family grilling in the back yard would be.

Well, who doesn't like sunbathing in the nude. And when you're buff like me you remove your fence.

If you get a permit, you can build an 8 foot fence. Make it a chain link fence with privacy slats. No maintenance. Grow something on your fence. You can grow beans, tomatoes, grapes, Morning Glory, Honeysuckle or a host of other vines.
