I don't think ET makes sense from all they have said. They brought in more shooters to support Dame and CJ. So, whoever is at SF must be a good shooter. Also, Stotts usually likes to keep his main lineup intact and brings a temp non-rotation player into the hole to keep everyone else consistent. Turner is locked into the second unit from all we have heard. Aminu is very likely the starting PF, so unless they have had a huge change of heart, he will start there as well. Who's left? Layman, Trent Jr., Stauskas? I would bet Layman gets first shot as he would be the most similar player and has put in the work.
We have an abundance of SFs. They might not be very good but there is a lot of them. At the same time we do not have many PFs. We need Aminu there. I am ok with starting Collins at PF and bringing Aminu off the bench, but he will still play major minutes there as Collins could play back up center too.
I'm fairly sure Mo was participating at practice yesterday. I'd be surprised if it isn't him. https://www.nba.com/blazers/gallery/photos-2018-trail-blazers-training-camp-begins
Curry in my mind is less of a PG than CJ. The highlights I see him in he is all SG. So my first guess is he plays with Baldwin. Each playing 14 minutes per game.
Mo is there, but he hasn't been cleared for full court without restrictions yet. I think it's going to be a problem at least early in the season.
Dame - 35 / Baldwin - 13 CJ - 33 / Curry - 15 Baldwin needs some minutes because he is the only one of the four that plays solid defense even though he is overly aggressive at times. I can also see times where Stotts goes micro-small and a combination of 3 of Dame/CJ/Curry/Baldwin is on the floor at the same time with Baldwin guarding the best offensive player.
I have no objection to that, and would actually prefer it. I just don't think that is the way Stotts usually does things. Admitting Aminu is a SF would be a big change in the lineup, and would actually thin our ranks at the 4 and 5. If Stotts does place Aminu at the SF, then it probably indicates he is rethinking the idea of Aminu as the starting PF. Lineups I would like: Starters: Dame, CJ, Aminu, Collins, Nurkic; Key bench rotations: (SF depends on who plays better between Turner, Layman and Trent Jr. "TLT") Dame, Curry, TLT, Collins, Leonard (assuming his progress is real) Curry, CJ, TLT, Aminu, Collins WBIV, CJ, T_T, Layman, Collins or something like that.
Maybe that was what he was asked to do in those games. Seems pretty clear from preseason chatter that CJ will not be at the point (great news) and Curry will be the sixth man covering for both Dame and CJ. WBIV will likely be called into action if Curry doesn't work out for some reason, Curry gets injured, or they need a better defensive presence.
Good point. The only thing I really know about the guy is he is 6'2", an extremely effective 3pt shooter, and was expected to start at SG last season next to Dennis Smith. But that doesn't mean he can't play the point. (Just that I am skeptical that he can)
His career AST% is 15.4 and his career best AST/G is 2.7. C.J.'s career AST% is 17.2 and his career best AST/G is 4.3. If you look at career AST/100 possessions, it's closer. C.J. is at 5.0 and Seth is at 4.8. Perhaps some of that is system and role dependent, but, so far, Seth Curry hasn't shown he is capable of manning the back up PG spot any better than C.J. McCollum. I really think you're selling Curry short. He's a much better player than Wade and should command 25+ mpg.
I am not 100% certain of that. He is a better shooter - but I do not think he is a better scorer. If you actually look at their per-36 from their best season - WB4 actually scores more per-36 and with a better TS% - clearly the sample size is really small for him, but he is much younger as well - so his trajectory is much higher imho. I also believe WB4 has the tools to be a much better defender than Curry ever will be, and he looks like he can actually run an offense as a PG and play as a combo-guard manning the SG position. Curry is an upgrade on Bazz/Pat-C as a backup SG - but given WB4's youth and the general sparks you see from him - I would certainly give him some leash - he has a much higher chance of becoming a starter level player in the league imho.
Include Patty if you want but Shabazz was the backup point bruh... You're also arguing things no one is arguing against.
I am arguing that he deserves about the same minutes as Curry does, at least at the start of the season - and I listed why. I also explained why I think he deserves it - because he is likely to be effective in 2 positions (vs 1 for Curry) and as such - I do not agree that Curry is a much (if at all) better player than him. I think my post was on point, but I am happy to hear details where it is not. Realistically, if you think Curry gets 25+ minutes a game, with CJ and Dame playing 35+ minutes a game, it comes from the positions WB4 will play - so I think the post actually makes sense.
