What's the best way to get rid of an old beater car. Its a 2004 Mazda6 with 190k miles...needs some work, I mean it runs, but the AC is broken, needs struts, oil leak, needs engine mounts, transmission slips, etc. I stopped taking care of it like 20-30k miles ago, just doing oil changes until it was gonna fall apart (no major repairs).

Should I even entertain trying to sell it? Or donate it. Seems donating is less hassle. Maybe I can sell it for like a grand and then I'd have a grand. who knows.

Call a couple of places like Goodwill, see who will give you the biggest write off, and let them deal with it

Yeah, was leaning more that way. But like 1-2k in my pocket sounds better. Not in a rush, other than the fact I need to move the car every 3 days since I park it out on the street.

Ahhh, okay,, the fastest way to sell it at this time is Facebook Market Place. Make it where they hook up at the bank, not your house, cash money only in a secure area.

I'd even probably see if a broker would do it for a big cut. really don't want to deal with scammers.

I may just keep it until it takes a shit on me, then I'll donate it. Not optimal, but seems like the least effort involved. maybe some drunk driver will run into it on the street (maybe happens once a year on that street).

Facebook is easy, not like Craigslist. Even gives you the ability to weed out who you want to deal with by looking at their homepage to make sure they are real

    Sure is!
Especially if you get a tax deduction. Seem like you can always find someone that really needs it too.
That sort of feels good to do.

Churches like cars. They get them for families in the congregation. You can donate it to a church and feel like the grinch at the end of the grinch, and get a tax write off

Take it out to the desert and set fire to it. You like to burn things down, right?

Now you come to the real problem of donating it. You end up fixing it first too or you feel like an asshole.
Sell it don't work out much better though.

I had a Jeep Cherokee I no longer wanted. So I put it up for sale, like $3000 or so.
He comes a young woman, maybe 2o, early 20s anyway. Two little kids and dad is in Afghanistan.
She only had 800 buck and no wheels to get to work. Fuck! I ended up putting new breaks on the damn thing too.
I couldn't let here drive that thing away with those kids until it was fixed.
