I would change that to say that it's been awhile since he's had a decent game offensively. Defensively he's had some really nice games.

I was so pissed when we traded up and took Collins. Then to make things worse stupid Utah rips off Denver and gets Mitchell. I've grown to like Collins though. I'm not worried about his struggles yet because I think him and Nurk are exactly the type of defenders that Dame and CJ need.

No it was not wrong. Rick Barry was shooting that under sling free throw when he and Warrior won the Championship in 1975.

To be upfront about it, I dont actually remember which player I wanted them to get when they jumped up to 10, but I do remember there being like 4-5 other guys I thought would be better than Collins, and Mitchell was one them. You were definitely the guy on O-live That was really high on Mitchell.

Now I think Collins is pretty good defensively, but he so far has not been an elite rebounder, or been able to get the ball in the hoop. Now I do see flashes where I think he’s got some potential. I hope he puts it together because I think without major roster moves he may be there best chance at getting “better”.

Depends on the contract. There isn't really a time where all of a sudden a player should be judged, you should simply take into account where they are in their development. Collins is still very early in his.

I was high on Mitchell too. Said he could average 20ppg during the preseason last year because Utah was the perfect fit for him. Just that many people have extreme hindsight bias.

I guess we all do to some extent, but I dont feel like I have it “that bad” here. I feel like my opinion of picking Zach at 10 was basically the same then as it it now.

Watching the replay while I pregame so this might not be a well thought out thought, but Simons is going to contribute this season.

kinda underwhelming even considering its the first game of pre-season.

    Dame tho...... Dame looked great.
Collins seems to have gotten more in shape and less good at basketball.
Meyers still can't play D or rebound for shit, he hit a few shots but if that was going to happen itd be against backups in pre-season.
Swagigan - i thought he looked pretty good actually - see next point.
Ed Davis - obviously not playing, but we needed everything he brought to the front court. we're missing a motor, a heart and desire.
The new guys - mixed bag, some crazy shots, some crazy good shots, some adjustments that never settled.
CJ - meh, nothing either way tbh

That statement can go both ways. There are plenty of pretty good shooters that say it is not reliable and doesn't coach well. But that is your opinion so be it. I guess you shoot the granny shot. Hope you do well with it.

    The point is Who else?
    And how many?
Also how about just about every shooting coach in basketball saying it is not a coachable shot.
    That is the point.
Sure you can make a few and if you are really really bad at free throws you can possibly raise your percentage by shooting the granny. But this is the NBA. The original statement was more about the Blazers having to have the dude that shoots the granny on the court.

    Pretty much this.
Players don't shoot free throws underhanded because they get laughed at and they find it embarrassing.

Whats more embarrassing. Shooting 39% from the free throw line, or shooting an underhanded free throw?

Hmmm, if only I could I unlike this. Or mark it unnecessarily rude.

I sure hope @TorturedBlazerFan didn't take it as "unnecessarily rude". We were discussing hindsight.

This, I agree with. There is a good podcast about why people more people don't shoot underhanded (spoiler: it's because of people like KJ here): Malcolm Gladwell's Revisionist History.

He's too nice. It was rude and unnecessarily so. I just wanted my objection noted; I still love you.
