I have seen a video or two. Im not sure what I think about the statement CJ isnt quick. He’s doesnt accelerate quickly, or run particularly fast. I guess as I think about it, Id say he’s basically just really, really good at knowing how to create space, whether its quickness or not I dont know... I’ll have to think about it.
I've never been the best player on a team but on every team I've been on, I've been the fastest, quickest, and most agile. I always guarded the ball. So CJ isn't quick to me. Dame is MUCH quicker. Quick to me is like... CP3, Isaiah Thomas, Kevin Johnson... Not Mark Jackson.. Stockton was QUICK. Nash was not. Jordan was QUICK. Pippen was not.
JJ Redick is one of the best off ball players in the league, and it’s mostly dependent on athleticism. Same with CJ. You make it sound like that “jerky”stuff isn’t athleticism. If it wasn’t why doesn’t everyone do it? Speed, stopping on a dime, staying balanced, it’s all athleticism. These guys make it look easy, but it’s not.
It's not athleticism. Reggie Miller did that the best. Rip Hamilton was 2nd best. Neither of those dudes would ever be called athletic. Knowing how to manipulate screens doesn't make you quick or athletic. At BEST it makes you "crafty".
Don't compare them to regular people bro. You know WTF I'm talking about. I mean by NBA standards. Now stop making me type things you already know. It's irritating.
I’m not comparing them to regular people. There’s just no thing as a non athletic guard. Separating from a defender - athleticism Making a turn around a screen - athleticism Stopping momentum on a dime and maintaining balance through the shot - athleticism
SG’s are predominately scorers and I understand that, but when they disrupt the offense by being black holes you better be really, really good. Very few SG’s are that good. CJ definitely is a score first and thats good, I dont expect elite passing but he should probably stop over dribbling into contested / bad shots and pass more often.
I get what you’re saying, and by NBA standards, no CJ isnt an elite NBA athlete, I’d say he’s kind of average maybe slightly below. Im still kind of argueing with myself on if he’s quick or not. He’s so freaking good at maintaining balance during those dribble moves in order to get defenders out of position. Its really not athleticism, but whatever ‘it’ is he’s elite at it. Ive seen great handles, and great balance, but he’s got an elite mix of that. Now to the point about his knee, could bad knees hurt his elite balance at some point? I guess, but reports say he’s had no structural damage so this is more than likely a very trivial thing.
I guess we'll agree to disagree. I think you're completely wrong. None of that equals athleticism. Repetition and muscle memory can teach a person all of those things. Nothing can teach Drexler to snatch quarters of the top of the backboard. Next you'll be calling Tracy Murray athletic...
A good example of a dude having to adjust his game after a knee injury is Eric Gordon. Same position and height as CJ, but he was even more of a high-flyer. Dude had the jump shot to fall back on when he lost some speed and separation ability. I think CJ can make the same transformation when and if the time comes.
Cj is almost a 50-40-90 player though he’s pretty efficient at what he does. Shit his “worse” season as a starter was last year and still had a 46% from the field and 42% from 3 line Cj is extremely under appreciated imo
