I love history as well and always have. Seems like it's the one and only subject that teaches you a little bit about everything, everyone, covering all subjects from creation of mathematics, linguistics, Society's, creation of Nations, space travel, world wars, formation of governments foundations of everything from the Arts, science, to governments, foundational beliefs religions, philosophies to Jazz and the Blues, et al. I had a good buddy who passed away 2 years ago about this time. He was a high school teacher north of Detroit. A devout Tigers season-ticket holder and a history teacher, his first day teaching was November 22nd 1963. History and baseball, I often realize my history by what happened in baseball that year. Agreed on the Italian Heroes, good guys versus thugs, so let's toss and Bobby DeNiro and Al Pacino... Francis Ford Coppola, and let's turn Marlin into Marlon Brandino...
Wow. JFK's assassination and you're standing in front of students. Had to be extremely tough to teach that day. Our only Roman Catholic POTUS. Don't forget Mark Bavaro. Are you a Giants fan?
That was my buddy who was the teacher not myself. I was in elementary school then. I mention my buddy because He was more like a big brother I never had. I mention him because he was a hard core Baseball (Tigers) fan and a history buff, you and I both are also with the Yankees and history. Since he passed August 2016, I have not met a history buff and baseball nut since then, or even prior. The sad thing with his passing was, He picked the Cubs to win the World Series. and put a sizable amount of money down in Vegas. He never got to see that World Series and the money was secondary just a bonus. His passing was sad , made even sadder missing the Cubs victory, which He felt strong enough about too place His bet before the 2016 season started... One thing He and I agreed on was you can learn everything through history. Another thing of importance he mentioned to me, he had a lot of students over the years who would say, I don't care what happened before I was born. A very sad night with anybody not wanting to know their history. Martin Scorsese another good Italian American. On history Scorsese said- You can't know where you're going unless you know where you've been. We cannot understand the future or the present, unless we have knowledge of the past. Nope I'm not a Giants fan. Three teams I have pulled for are - Packers- I was the only Packers spend in the state of Louisiana hardcore cowboy country during the Ice Bowl of 66. I have also like the Raiders since I moved to California 1968. When Joe Montana came into the league I bled 49er gold. Now I get my football Thrills watching Alabama and Nick Saban destroy everyone else. I doubt the Crimson Tide will win a National Title this year. Sure I'd love to see it but I doubt it's going to happen...
