Watched a bunch of comic book/sci fi movies recently. Was kind of disappointed though. Most of the films got great reviews. So I expected more.

Black Panther (Decent flick, but nothing that blew me away. Lamar's soundtrack was first rate in every way.)
Solo (Ehenreich was likable as Han, but all the reshoots and changes in the script led to a really boring ending.)
Infinity War (So many side plots and ancillary characters that it felt like Marvel was running them through the Thanos meat grinder as fast as possible. Brolin was cast well though.)

Some films I saw that I think are classics:

Sicario: Amazing, brutal, eye opening film. Dennis Villenueve's journey through the Southwestern rabbit hole that leads to the Mexican drug cartel is one of the best recent films I have seen. Also Johann Johannsson's brilliant soundtrack shows just how much the world lost with his recent death.

Tampopo: This romantic food-lover's odyssey from Japan is a delight of a film. A self-described "Noodle Western" we follow a grumpy truck driver, his assistant and a desperate local cook as they aspire to build the ultimate Ramen Noodle Restaurant. Maybe the best film of its kind and a delight.

Just watched Hotel Artemis. Good movie. Star studded cast. My problem was the plot. Not a lot of twists. The twists there were (1 or 2) were thrown away basically. Very straightforward. Feels to short.

Also saw the Deadpool 2. Surprisingly good. I'll bet Ryan Reynolds mines that character as long as Stallone does Rocky.

This is the problem here. A thread about movies turns into some stupid, silly, hurt feelings, back and forth, personal insult give and take.

@Propagandist and I moved on. Thanks for caring.

@Lanny, thanks for suggesting the movie, Everest. Dad and I enjoyed watching it. Take care, buddy.

I know I'm super late to the game, but I just watched Devils Advocate, and it was REALLY good.

What makes the novel Grapes of Wrath indelible in one's memory is its final scene: Rose of Sharon breastfeeding a starving stranger. That darkness is missing from the movie, that heavy sense of futility and of humanity. And stuff.

And I will continue to insult these fools until they start posting about movies with dogs in them.

Saw Don't Worry, He can't get far on foot, last night with Mrs. CC. It was actually quite good. Joaquin Phoenix and Jonah Hill looking at Oscar nods.

The Party is perhaps the finest comedy ever filmed.
