Garnett (and Webber) could both handle the rock too. Part of their greatness was being able to snag a defensive rebound and just push the ball up the floor themselves and initiate the offense.

Maybe he means that Collins will be traded in 4 years for an Eastern conference borderline all-star who will take our squad to contender status.

Webber was such a freak of nature. I loved watching that guy. He wasn’t the defender that Garnett or Duncan was though.

I meant nothing other to invoke the name of a former Blazer legend and a current Blazer legend. :)

Now that you mention it, I did see Zach make a bank shot the other day.

Both skinny and white. Similar hair. Good comp!

(We'll ignore the part about the singing.)

Garnett was a more complete player at a comparable age, but Zach's defense is more advanced at this stage of his career. The thing that makes me the most optimistic about this comparison is Garnett entered the league with a good fundamental base and just added to it and kept improving year after year, not reaching his peak until his 9th and 10th seasons in the league.

Players who reach peak Garnett level are few and far between (he led the league in PER and WS two years in a row, in rebounding 4 years in a row, was a 15 time all star and eventually won DPOY and MVP in his 13th season). So, I don't think it's reasonable to expect Collins to get there, but based on Collins' solid fundamental base, high BBIQ, good work ethic and aggressive style, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect to see continuous improvement over the next several seasons, and that's something that makes me very excited.

In an ideal world, I'd see Collins developing a game similar to Robert Parrish. Elite defender with some nice post moves.

It was really a joke on the Sam Bowie thing. But I took it too far, as expected.

Just wait until you see them both in a mask...

Bowie was extremely skilled for an athlete of his size. His body just physically betrayed him. When I think of what could have been, I always remember this game, from three years after we traded him to NJN, when an old, physically hobbled Bowie dominated Hakeem right smack in the middle of his prime:

Lots of good, and even a couple great, players on the floor that night, but on that night, Sam Bowie was the best.

Dr. Jack wanted Bowie to be his next Walton. He saw the great rebounding, shot blocking, high BBIQ and all around skill set and wanted to plug him into the spot in his system vacated by Walton. Unfortunately, like Walton before him, and to an even greater extent, Bowie's body just disintegrated under him.

So we're gonna trade a future league MVP for a borderline all-star from the East?

It is so like the Blazers to add an elite level defender just one year before the league abolishes defense entirely. What luck!
