I saw a play the other day, maybe two or three games ago, where Leonard jumped for a block. I mean, it was timed perfectly. A beautiful beginning.

    And then...

Inexplicably, midair, he flew backwards, away from the ball, towards the baseline. It was like a wind just blew and pushed him away from the ball.

    I laughed.

Probably not. Self-awareness seems to be lacking. Plus, his wife probably has the entire forum blocked.

Serious question, all things considered, is Meyers the worst blazer of all time?

    Some more sad context...

    Swanigan's last 253 minutes played: 3 blocks

And he has the explosiveness of a wet sock.

Last night he was an abomination. It's like he sucked all the positive air out of them Rose Garden.

    To me he’s #1.

Been here longer than any other shitty player we’ve ever had. Assuming he doesn’t get moved before his contract expires (safe assumption) will have made $50M for minimal production.

I don’t know if anyone else comes close. Larue?

That's who I was thinking. Larue was picked number 1 based on like one good college game he had in college. But he was injured so much he never was able to show if that skill translated into the NBA. Meyers has had seven years....

I don't remember LaRue ever being injured, just sucking so badly he lost playing time to better players (i.e. anyone with a pulse). He sucked so badly that two years after drafting him wih te No. 1 overall pick, the Blazers again found themselves with the worst record in the league and again used the No. 1 overall pick in the draft on a center. That guy had a lot of injuries, but still managed to lead the team to a championship.

We also didn't pass on anyone like Bob McAdoo or Julius Irving to draft Meyers. Who is worse is a subject for debate, but the lost opportunity cost was greater with LaRue.

Of course, you can play the butterfly effect and claim if LaRue wouldn't have sucked so badly, we wouldn't have been able to draft Walton and would have never won a title. But you can also say, if we would have drafted Dr. J instead of LaRue we would have won more than 1 championship.

Wouldn't know. I wasn't even born. Just know what people have told me. But when I grew up, Larue Martin lived near us. His kid went to West Linn High School. Martin was always kind of a gangly guy for being that size anyway. His back always seemed to be giving him problems. Of course, maybe that was just the way I saw him.

    Relevant quotes:

"Martin averaged 5.3 points and 4.6 rebounds in 14 minutes per game in just four seasons with the Trail Blazers. He blames his low numbers on his lack of playing time, but many believe he was just not good enough.

“He didn’t get playing time because he [stunk],” said Boston Globe sports columnist Bob Ryan, who has covered the NBA for decades. "

    No mention of injuries.

"Following his basketball career, Martin went through a battle with drinking, a problem his father, who died at age 40, also encountered. Martin now has been sober for 17 years and remains in touch with his Jesuit upbringing."

That may have something to do with your memories of him.

He was always a gentleman when I saw him. And I'm glad to see he got his life in order when he moved back home.

He definitely had one tonight that the score keepers obviously missed. He played great tonight, by the way.
