http://www.aolsportsblog.com/2007/05/09/bi...nder-the-table/Bird and McHale Used to Smoke John Mellencamp 'Under the Table'Posted May 9th 2007 9:30PM by Marcel MutoniFiled under: Celtics, Eastern, NBA Gossip, BostonListening to hardcore Boston Celtics fans talk about their team - especially the Bird-era Celts - can be a nauseating experience. According to these fanatics, the Celtics of the 80s were the closest thing to basketball perfection we've ever seen: the played unselfishly; they always played hard; they had the Basketball Jesus; they didn't dress like thugs; and they didn't do drugs.Wait, scratch that. If you want to believe John Mellencamp (of all people), certain prominent members of the Celtics did a lot of drugs.I've known Larry Bird since we were kids. When he was on the Celtics and I was playing in Boston, he and Kevin McHale would come to my dressing room after the show and smoke me under the table.Actually, this sheds light on a lot of things. How else would you explain McHale's comical mismanagement of the Timberwolves and Bird's decision to trade away Al Harrington and Stephen Jackson? They had to have been high when they made all of those terrible decisions.
