Let alone last game where he was something like 12/15 from the field, tonight not only he made the game winner but he also made two clutch defensive plays on Walker, something we will never see from McCollum.

I questioned this project from the start and it still kinda amazing to me how people can still believe in a backcourt of Lillard and McCollum, two absolutely sub par difender who can't make up with offense to cover their defensive deficiencies, at least not in the playoffs.

Tonight when I saw the two defensive plays from Butler I was like "wow, I never see something like that on the Blazers", it kinda reminded me of the Matthews pre injury who could Impact games down the stretch with his clutch defense (obviously he was not on Butler's level).

He would have been a great acquisition but I actually think we did not have a clear path to sign him. Even if we offered CJ Minnesota could have preferred a package of two players that they got, especially Covington seems like the sort of player they must have got if they let Butler go, to help on defense.

And of course we were never going to offer them CJ as he’s borderline untradeable for Olshey. I’m not even sure Olshey would offer him for Anthony Davis at this point, we haven’t really been rumored to put him on the table when Kawhi and Butler were available and it was actually confirmed we refused to include him in Paul George conversations.

Butler at Philly is perfect. They badly needed a player who can close out games and win for them and they got one of the 10 best players in the league at that. They would not have lost the Celtics series last year with him.

Its likely that Butler said he wouldn't habe resigned here. So why the hell would we trade for a guy who was leaving?

And while Butler is a great player, he is also known for destroying whatever team he is on. Also, you praise his defense on a night where the main person he guarded scores 60 fucking points.

I agree with Bones here. If the man would not resign here there is no reason to even make an offer. I am pretty sure Neil reached out he would be silly not too.

Wolves weren't going to trade him to a western team let alone a division rival. That said, I agree we need everything Butler brings.

This is complete conjecture on your part.

I personally think all Butler cares about was getting paid. As long as the team he was traded to would be willing to give him the 5th year, he was going to re-sign

The idea that the Blazers "could" have traded for Butler (without gutting the team), is also purely conjecture.

The OP stating the Blazers "should" have traded for him is basically a straw man.

    Yup.

Saric/Covington is also arguably a better get than CJ.

That moment when the OP forgets that all western teams were out of the running by default...

And your post isn't conjecture? Butler would be great but you act like Minnesota even wanted to talk to us lol. It takes two to tango.

Butler? Pfft! We should have traded for Steph Curry and Kevin Durant! THEN we'd be kickin' ass!

    Stupid front office.

Interesting tidbit in here about Damian Lillard having a verbal agreement with Paul Allen that Blazers would facilitate a trade to his liking when/if he ever wanted out …

Losely thrown together quote with iffy sources (Let's be honest, the source is probably Crapzano, and based on their imaginary 2nd meeting). Also "If he ever"... so if he ever wanted a trade theyd trade him... so insightful.

Even if it's true, it's not really a big deal. All it means is that the team would respect his wishes if he wanted to be traded. It doesn't mean he wants to be.
