Good deal for the yanks. On more pitcher left to acquire. I think this also opens up money for 2 of corbin, machado or harper.
Horrible trade imo...30 year old who seems to end up on the dl...gave up a 22 year old pitcher....guy averaged 5.7 innings a start playing in a pitching friendly stadium....his era was almost a full run higher on the road...23 hrs in 160 innings....now pitching in ny...smh
I like this deal as well. I would like to end up with Corbin. However, I would go after Brantley (left handed bat) and/or LeMahieu (2B GG) rather than Machado or Harper. Torres could then move to SS until Gregorius returns.
Trashbin pulled the trigger on a 30 year old, injury prone pitcher who looks to be a short term fix for 2 twenty something pitchers & a future OF. The hope is Paxton makes an immediate roster breakthrough......in other words, he would be one of the missing pieces to a World Series crown. Anything short of that, all his maneuvering would be a failure. If that happens, after next year it is anybody’s guess what takes place. Trashbin aims to be looking only to next year with this move. It’s all conjecture after that! And yes, smh.
The Rays obtained from Seattle C Zunino, OF Heredia & rookie P Plassmeyer for OFs Mallex Smith & Jake Fraley. Then Seattle takes Trashbin to the proverbial shed and gets Sheffield & Swanson, two pitchers for their future.
Seattle GM Jerry DiPoto loves dealing with the Yankees and the Rays......and with good reason. They are filling out the Seattle roster on a yearly basis. LOL
Swanson is 25 already and just reached triple A last year and not in yanks top 30 prospects. Sheffield has potential but didn't exactly light things up in his brief yankee debut out of the pen this september. Yanks view him as a number 3 type starter which they have plenty of now. Their a win now team and paxton is a top of the rotation starter who will help them immediately. Cant see what's not to like in this deal. Also, sheffield traded now for the 2nd time in 3 years is not a great sign for him. Yanks have plenty of young starters coming down the line if they need them including jordan montgomery who should be back sometime in the 2nd half this year. I suspect though they either sign free agent corbin or make a trade for Kluber to complete the rotation.
The baseball America rankings have Sheffield #1, Swanson #11, and DTW in the 20s for Yankee prospects. Probably means they’re 1, 2, 3 for Seattle today. On our end, seems a bit light, but even though he’s been on the DL they’re not “pitchers problems”. Getting hit in the arm. Blisters. Pulling a groin...no TJ or knee or shoulder anything. But the “career high 160.1 innings “ probably kept the price low. We had to give him up anyway, as a boras client. The other name rumored was LAD for a package around OF verduro. I’m ok with it, not loving it, which means it was probably a good trade for both. And Cano is still outperforming his contract. Even when he takes half a year off for bad behavior. How long that lasts...?
My humble opinion I thought Sheffield was overrated, he didn't show me anything special in the minors, or during a short stint in the majors.... Now watch the fkr prove me wrong... Glad to have Paxton...
What's done is done, all we can hope for now is that "Big Maple"performs in a manner that does make Yankee Fans turn to "Weeping Willows."
The big maple in the big Apple. A big lefty that throws 100mph. We won’t miss any of the 3 prospects in comparison
