Michigan State ties biggest win, 101-33 over Tennessee Tech

Nick Ward's status was uncertain for Michigan State heading into Sunday's game against Tennessee Tech.

    His play was anything but.

The junior forward scored 23 points, including the first eight points for the No. 11 Spartans, in a 101-33 victory, tying the largest margin of victory in program history.

No. 23 Ohio State starts slowly but beats Samford 68-50

    Don't flinch.

That was the message Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann had for his young Buckeyes, trailing for the first time at the half against undefeated Samford after shooting just 37.5 percent from the field.

Those words provided the necessary motivation, as Kaleb Wessonscored 17 points and Keyshawn Woods added 14 to help No. 23 Ohio State beat scrappy Samford 68-50 on Tuesday night for its fifth straight victory to begin the season.

No. 20 Iowa routs Alabama State 105-78

Iowa freshman Joe Wieskamp had something to prove after back-to-back bad showings.

The Hawkeyes' newest star was brilliant on Wednesday night, a display that showed why he earned the starting spot he's had since the opener.

Luka Garza scored 22 points, Wieskamp had a career-high 20 and 20th-ranked Iowa rolled Alabama State 105-78 on Wednesday night in its home debut as a ranked team.

No. 9 Michigan rolls past Chattanooga 83-55

    I
saiah Livers is doing his best to shore up one of Michigan's few areas of concern early this season.

Livers scored all 12 of his points in the first half, and the ninth-ranked Wolverines cruised to an easy 83-55 victory over Chattanooga on Friday. Livers made all four of his shots from the field in the first half and only missed one for the game.

No. 23 Ohio State pulls away to rout Cleveland State 89-62

Tougher games loom on the schedule for No. 23 Ohio State. But so far, the Buckeyes have passed every early test.

Kaleb Wesson had 19 points and three teammates also scored in double figures as Ohio State pulled away in the second half to beat Cleveland State 89-62 on Friday night.

Happ helps No. 22 Badgers withstand NC State in 79-75 win

With every win in what has been a rugged early-season schedule, No. 22 Wisconsin is proving that last year may have been just a fluke.

The Badgers are back to their old, reliable ways -- getting clutch stops and key contributions from different players.

Ethan Happ had 19 points and 11 rebounds, D'Mitrik Trice hit a long jumper with 23.6 seconds left and Wisconsin withstood North Carolina State's in-your-face defense to rally for a 79-75 win on Tuesday night.

Wieskamp helps No. 14 Iowa hold off Pittsburgh 69-68

The first five games were a relative breeze for the 14th-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes, who unexpectedly jumped into the Top 25 after an impressive trip to New York.

The rebuilding Pitt Panthers reminded Iowa that things typically aren't so easy against fellow high-major teams -- even ones that didn't win a conference game last season.

Freshman guard Joe Wieskamp had 18 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double, Nicholas Baer scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half and the Hawkeyes held off Pittsburgh 69-68 on Tuesday night for their third win over a power program this month.

Jones leads Penn State to win over No. 13 Virginia Tech

Pat Chambers predicted two weeks ago that opponents would soon come to respect Myreon Jones' sharpshooting abilities.

When the Penn State freshman finally got his chance to showcase his shot against a ranked team on Tuesday night, he lived up to his coach's billing.

Jones scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half to lead Penn State to a 63-62 upset win over No. 13 Virginia Tech on Tuesday. Jones played 22 minutes and finished the game 7-for-11 and was 4-for-8 from 3-point range.

No. 7 Michigan rolls past No. 11 North Carolina 84-67

After 40 minutes of poised offense and smothering defense by Michigan, North Carolina coach Roy Williams was at the end of his wits.

"As a coach, I feel like I've done the worst job with this team in 31 years as a head coach, but give Michigan the credit," Williams said. "They made the tougher plays."

Williams' frustration was understandable, but his team didn't look much worse than the other opponents that have faced seventh-ranked Michigan lately. Charles Matthews had 21 points and seven rebounds, and Zavier Simpson spearheaded another strong defensive effort as the Wolverines rolled to an 84-67 victory over the 11th-ranked Tar Heels on Wednesday night.

Trice, No. 22 Wisconsin win at No. 14 Iowa 72-66

The matchup between the resurgent Badgers and Hawkeyes lived up to its billing -- with Wisconsin sophomore D'Mitrik Trice stepping up to hit the game's biggest basket after star Ethan Happ fouled out.

Trice scored 20 points, including a crucial 3 with 20 seconds left, and 22nd-ranked Wisconsin held off No. 14 Iowa 72-66 on Friday night in the Big Ten opener for both teams.

Poole scores 21, No. 7 Michigan beats No. 19 Purdue 86-57

Purdue coach Matt Painter called timeouts twice in the opening 10 minutes, desperately trying to slow Michigan down.

    It didn't work.

Jordan Poole scored 21 points as part of a balanced offense and the seventh-ranked Wolverines were stingy on defense in a 76-57 win over the 19th-ranked Boilermakers on Saturday, routing a third ranked team this season.
