The Blazers performed a nine pass symphony in the WAS game Nov 18 that is worthy of recognition and analysis. This was a beautiful demonstration of basketball passing skill and off ball movement that was satisfying to watch and a delight to think about. This was masterful!

There are a number of benefits to such a team assist scoring success that are worth noting. This level of rapid accurate passing requires that the defense chase the ball frantically and leads to defenders becoming off balance and out of position, and it tires the defenders. There is a major momentum swing created as the defenders feel defeated and demoralized, realizing that they were just whipped by an entire team.

The Blazers should be highly encouraged ready to carry this skill set forward. I propose that there be a play called the "flow tres" to mean a series of passes based on 5 or more passes with Blazers moving through a rotation of sweet spots on the arc to receive passes set up by driving into the paint and kick out passes that can flow along the arc to find the open swish3. Favored sweet spots including the corners will allow high percentage swish3 shooting by Meyers, CJ, Dame, Jake, Chief, Nik, Seth, or Evan. This play can be repeated as often as it is working to allow for powerful swish3 scoring. More than 24 swish3s in a game are possible.

In order to beat the best opponents, the Blazers need to add to the scoring that comes from open swish3s off of screens by Dame and CJ, drives through the vacant paint, and close in hooks and dunks. By adding the flow tres to the Blazer offensive playbook, fans can look forward to coming displays of excellence and wins!

This can be the year of the Blazer NBA Championship!

...I agree that more passing is needed for this team to succeed, not sure about all this other nonsense though! :dunno:

The purpose of the "Flow tres" is to confuse the opposing team players who read the scouting report, leading to displays of excellence and wins.

Hi Strenuus. Your response is about what I expect from you. It appears that you are not ready to contemplate this being the year of the Blazers NBA Championship. Maybe you can grow into more optimism gradually.

You don't think passing is already added & encouraged in the blazer playbook?
You think during the Wizards game(lesser competition) that Portland magically stumbled onto passing?

A masterpiece of the erudite art of letters. This 10-part tour de force magnum opus exceeds any mere 9-pass possession.

That play was a big deal because it was a distinct aberration. It was awesome....but can't remember the last time they made even 2/3rds of those passes in like manner in a single play.

The probability of 9 passes not resulting in a turnover is about the 9th power of 50%. Any non-Stotts coach thinks plays like that are wimpy...8 players chicken to shoot, especially the many who had open dribbling paths to the basket.

You sure are screaming a lot lately. You been spending time getting the rubber glove treatment at your doctor’s office or hanging with Mrs. HCP?

Hmm. Maybe the latter engenders the need for the former?

Great thread swish3! That many passes wears defenses down bigtime....instead of Flow Tres I'd name it the 5th Beatle play

Ralph Miller would say 3 good passes can break down any defense.
